Hi all,

Totally new to this section so huge apologies if this has been covered!
I seem to be getting older and developing more allergies/intolerance's to food and its making weight loss a bit of a nightmare!

I have a fatal allergy so alot of recipes and pre made stuff need altering or forgetting to avoid it, and i have developed issues with Milk, complex carbs (bread, rice, grains, pasta) and also alot of fruits as well. I'm waiting to see someone about it, but because of bloating/blockages/ fatigue losing weight just isn't happening.

I gym 4/5x a week doing designed workouts for weight lose and core strength, and am 99% accurate at logging everything i eat/drink....I even use the recipe builder!
I am having between 1200-1400 calories a day and only use about 50% of my extra calories.

I have lost a grand total of 5lb in about 14 weeks.......boooooo

Can anyone suggest anything that can help whilst waiting to see a professional as staying on track is becoming harder, and the chocolate cakes keep trying to entice me over to the yummy dark side that is the cake aisle lol

Thanks in advance x

Stop eating the foods you're allergic to. Focus on what you can eat. There's so many other foods. And use this site http://www.iifym.com/iifym-calculator/ to confirm your calorie goals. It sounds like you're eating at maintenance more days than not. Good luck.

Allergies don't make you gain or lose weight, too many calories do. I have food allergies myself and I have to avoid them, I have had anaphylaxis before.

If you can't have milk, fruit and complex carbs, you still can include meats, fats like nut butters, seeds, olive oil, etc. Like, you can have a burger but wrap it in lettuce instead of bread bun.

And 14 lbs in 5 weeks is fine. I don't understand the problem other than figuring out what foods you can and can't have now.

I have a lot of food allergies, including eggs which is a severe one. I am also allergic to whey, so no dairy milk, but I drink milk all the time. Either coconut milk or cashew milk. I am also allergic to cane sugar, so I really don't eat processed foods much anymore because sugar is added to almost everything now. There are a lot of blogs out there that teach you how to cope with food allergies. The biggest thing you can do is learn how to cook for yourself. Read blogs, get some cookbooks written for people with allergies, and get in the kitchen. I'm happy to help you if you have any questions or need any pointers.

I have major food allergies as well and if I don't make it myself I don't eat it ! I don't eat processed foods as I can't tolerate msg or the other additives. It's more work but I have food with me all the time as silly as that sounds and anyone that knows me understands that I'm not being rude if I come to their place and bring my own food. I've just had to stop eating raw almonds as I love them but they don't have the same feelings about me

Oooooh, I see. Well in that case, do you weigh your food? if not, you may not be losing much because you're eating more than you think.

Are you able to eat most meats and vegetables? A lot of your lunches and dinners can be complete with a meat and a veggie or pair of veggies. Maybe chicken or tuna salad on a bed of lettuce for lunch. And cake is delicious.....I visit the cake aisle sometimes, but I usually go for cupcakes or something I can share with coworkers/friends/family or else I'll buy a bag of Oreos and lose my self control!

I'm allergic to shellfish and wheat so I don't eat them. I eat plenty of other things through. I do a lot of potato and rice side dishes with veggies and meats.

You can make your own nut milk! Here's a link that includes a video of the process: http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-almond-milk-at-home-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-189996

I'm very sorry this is happening to you - it must be incredibly stressful! Have you thought about continuing to eat and exercise the way you are now and considering yourself at maintenance for the moment until you get a chance to see your Dr.? That might take away the added stress of trying to figure out why you're not losing while you're also trying to find a way of eating that won't trigger your allergies. Maybe focus on adding some new recipes to your diet that will satisfy the chocolate cake monster? The very best of luck :)

Coconut is not that hard to avoid. There are plenty of foods you can eat. Just weigh your foods and stay within in your deficit.

    This.

That should be the #1 question asked in this kind of thread.

Thanks for you comment but I'm sorry its not helpful.
If i eat coconut it will actually kill me so i have to be very vigilant with it - Even low fat hot choclate is made with it now!
Anything that doesn't have specific fats listed I can't eat it.

I'm sorry to go off at you, but I've asked for help and people just telling me don't eat the stuff i can't eat isn't helping - its stating the obvious and I already know that.....I've been avoiding it all for the last 30 years.

I asked for help as I can't eat alot of stuff that is ideal to eat so was wanting advise on how to work round it. Everything I eat is weighted/measured/scanned, even on holiday. I walk 5 miles a day, go to the gym 4x a week and also have a trainer.
