Today is my first day return to MFP after a failed attempt about a year ago. I am a stress/boredom Eater with a Pepsi addiction I just can't seem to overcome.

I am a full time student (PreLaw), and with all the other stresses in my life, find it very hard to eat healthy and lost weight. Being over 40 doesn't help. ;-)

I need to lose approximately 80 pounds and because of a serious spine injury, am unable to do strenuous exercises. I can use all the tips and support possible.

The good news is that you can lose weight without much exercise. I'm not sure you can do it if you eat from boredom or drink Pepsi, though. What worked for me was to pre-log everything I ate, and stick religiously to my daily calorie limit. I've lost 96 lbs. in the last 11 months, at the age of lots more than 40.

Pre-logging gets you out of the trap of eating however you feel, then figuring after the fact, to your horror, how many calories it was. Before every meal, I propose to myself what to eat, look up the calories, and adjust the amounts as necessary to hit my budget. After a while, this becomes more routine, but at the beginning it was incredibly important. I wanted to get away from a daily failure: instead, every day I hit my calorie budget, which makes me feel good. If I want a treat, I work it in ahead of time by making room in the budget. That way I have to see how much it costs in terms of some other food I might have eaten instead. If it's really what I want more than anything else that day, it's what I eat--but I still stay under budget.
