Food without fat!

This is my first time creating a message on MFP though I have been using this site for several years. Recently I was told by my doctor my colesterol was a slightly elevated (LDL) and suggested statins. I suggested I try to manage with diet, I do not want to go on statins. After doing the math and research on 1200 calories per day I am allowed 33grams of fat and need to keep colesterol under 200. No problem keeping the colesterol under 200, however 33 grams of fat per day is nearly impossible for me. I do not like dry food with no flavor. I have found ways to reduce fat in meat dishes, eliminate fat on salads, but when it comes to vegetables I do not enjoyed them steamed. A pat of butter or some flavored olive oil (1 tsp) makes all the difference.

If anyone else has struggled with keeping fat really low please advise. Thanks

Why don't you want to eat fat?

Can you see a registered dietician for some dietary guidance? Some fats in the diet are essential to maintaining good health, and there is a sea of information and misinformation out there. A professional who is well versed in this area could help you navigate the changes you are looking to make. Several different lifestyle factors can influence blood cholesterol levels, and for some people diet isn't the strong influence that we have been told that it is. Genetics is a big factor too, which obviously you can't modify. Look into it a bit further, rather than just trying to cut out as much dietary fat as you can. Best wishes.
