Starting out much bigger than I thought :(

Either my doctor's scale is wrong or I gained about 20lbs in a month (I didn't weigh before I started dieting). I've been doing great for a week with my calorie counting and I've even been happy about it but this was so depressing. I didn't walk for 4 months up until July and gained about 40lbs from that and now this... I've never been this big before and it's difficult to not be discouraged. Please remind me that it is possible and it doesn't have to take a lifetime to lose the weight? I officially have about 100lbs to lose. Any quotes or happy/quick weight loss stories would be great.

Read the success stories. Anyone can gain a lot in a month but remember that your journey starts with the first step. Be prepared for a lifelong journey to fitness and health. Give yourself s realistic goal for weight loss that you can maintain, like a pound a week. It'll seem slow at first but at the end of your first year-50 pounds down!!1

You can do it, you just have to want it and realize that it take hard work and patience. I'm down 45lbs with about that much to go. I'm accomplishing things I never thought I would. You CAN do it. You just gotta go for it and stay with it!1

I don't do 100 lb quick. It's been since January 2016, beginning on January 25, for me to lose 80 lb. Do you want to be 100 lb overweight in 1 year? Or, do you want to be slimmer, fitter, dare I say sexier, in 1 year? Do it right for one year and then you can do it right for the second year and actually reach and maintain a healthy weight.6

But 80lbs in about 8 months is pretty quick lol not that quick but decent. How many calories do you net?0 -
Don't be discouraged. Years fly by and you will wish you started now. I'm 100 lb down, so it's doable. It took me 3 years so it wasn't fast. Feels as if I started yesterday.7

It won't be long before you're back down on the scale. I lost 100 lbs, then gained 50 of them back and was very discouraged. But, I got back at it and I'm down over 150 lbs total. You CAN do it!7

100lbs-loser here. It can be done, just be sure to appreciate the ride along the way. Think of your weight loss journey like going on vacation, except when you get there, you can stay as long as you'd like Enjoy the small victories, even if it means the scale doesn't move but your pants fit better than they did the week before3

This can be done, don't get discouraged. I had 264 Lbs to lose starting this process. In less than 10 months, I have lost 125 Lbs so far and am closing in on my half-way goal of 132 Lbs down.
I also was taken by surprise at how heavy I started. I knew it was bad but I didn't think it was that bad.
I know when you are heavier, you lose faster but I've also been very motivated to get the weight off and working hard on my diet and exercise.
I wish you good luck on your journey and this one little piece of advice. Keep your head in a good place and your weight loss will follow.3 -
Please remember that you didn't gain it overnight. You can't expect to lose it over night. I am down 38 lbs but it's been a year. I am on a marathon, not a sprint. Any loss is a good loss. There will be times when you will plateau. I did this when I hit 200lbs...and it lasted 5 weeks! I am working out 6 days a week and in taking 1300 calories...so I was discouraged. You just have to keep reminding yourself that you need to be healthy while on this journey and that most often it is mind over matter. Don't let your mind beat your body's goal. Make good choices, be active as much as you can and keep trekking! YOU GOT THIS!

I am back at the starting line of my journey as well. I couple of years ago, I lost 50 lbs and since then, I have gained it all back. I too have 100lbs to lose. Feel free to add me if you want1

Don't worry. I had the exact same thought a few years ago when I stepped on my doctor's scale. I knew I was heavy, but even the number there surprised me. I was thinking I was about 260 or 270, and I was over 300... I also made a similar thread on MFP.
My weight has gone up/down in the years since, but right now, I'm at 213.
87lbs down. Still have 20-30lbs to go.
All you can do is take it each day at a time. The most difficult part of it is starting. Once you start, it becomes second nature. Sure you'll have cheat days here and there, but overall, you'll be seeing it as a lifestyle change rather than having to diet/exercise for the sake of it.

Thanks everyone. I will say the only advice I cant get with is you didn't gain it all in _____ why do you expect to lose it that fast? I totally gained about 20lbs in a month so losing at the rate I gained of 20lbs in a month would be great lol. I am going to keep on trying though and hope for any progress. I'm not weighing often because it discourages me. Thanks again!0

I totally got in a rut in 2014 and gained a ton of weight fast... Feb 2015 I was determined to lose it as quickly as possible. In a safe way...and preserve as much muscle as possible, but I just wanted it off me...now. It came off pretty fast...but I was committed to it 100%. I got a fitbit and walked and walked and walked and walked. I didn't really exercise then, so just walking, I burned a ton of calories. I completely overhauled my nutrition - basically cut anything processed and stuck to portioned lean proteins, good carbs, healthy fats, and veggies. I cut alcohol too because I didn't want the extra calories. Started taking HIIT classes and lifting heavy a few times a week. The weight dropped. And I've kept it off. But it was like one day I decided, I want this off me and I don't care what I have to do, I'm going to do it (safely, healthy way I mean.) Just tell me what to do and I will do it. It took making this a priority in my life, getting up early to workout first thing in the morning, prepping my meals, turning down drinks. I know that is not for everyone, but the structure, routine, and discipline actually helps me the most.
Now I'm a bit more relaxed about it, and I will have a cheat meal here and there, or a glass of wine, and have a social life. I don't live out of tupperware. But I still make getting my workout in and planning my meals a big priority I plan my days around. But it's been good for body, mind, and soul, and I think has made me more productive in general.
Don't give up. I didn't weigh myself a lot in the beginning either. It seemed impossible to lose so much. You have to stick with it before you start seeing the changes which is the hardest part of all. And be all in. But once you start seeing results, it gets really motivating to see the scale keep going down.0 -

I know! I know! You want to lose it faster! But if you don't start now and set an achievable goal, where will you be in two years? 20 pounds heavier? 30 pounds heavier?
Think about what you want most: a one pound weigh loss? or more calories just because you want to taste them? Yes, they will taste good, but for about two minutes. That one pounds lost feels good for a lot longer than two minutes.2 -
Tomorrow is my birthday and I'm expecting to reach 100lbs lost. I've put off weighing so I can give myself this gift. I'm at 98 lost now.
Look, it's simple but it's not easy. You need to get your head in the right place. How one gets there is different for everyone. For me it was treating eating right and exercising like going to work, brushing my teeth, and not spending more money than I have. I did it whether I felt like it or not. When I got impatient, I remembered how long I'd put this off, all those days overeating and doing absolutely nothing for my health.
I have more weight to lose, even after the 100 mark. I don't care. I wouldn't trade how much better I feel today for anything. ANYTHING. You can do this. You just need to decide you can do this.
