Banana or Oatmeal - Which to eat before work out? Which to e

Tomorrow I have weight training from 8:30-9:30. Last time I ate an apple and yogurt before I went and felt sick while running and famished when I was done. I have to eat before I go and I can't decide between my 110 calorie banana or my 130 lower sugar peaches and cream oatmeal. I think I should eat one before and one after to keep my body going until lunch (100 calorie english muffin, 1/4 cup egg whites, and 80 calorie piece of cheese.) Which should I eat before and which should I eat after? Or should I just change the whole thing up anyway?

Why are you eating so very little food? Or do you just not log everything?

So little food? That's just for breakfast! Oatmeal and bananas are very filling.

I agree with the majority. Eat the oatmeal before and banana after. Bananas are great for recovery.

I log everything. I have a smaller appetite to begin with, I drink a lot of water, I eat every 2 to 3 hours, and I'm trying to get my net calories up at the same time while keeping it nutritious. I'm recovering from a few months of deficit if you look back further.

I think you need to eat more food during the day, hun. You aren't even hitting 1000 calories a day...and then you are working out. If I were you, I would eat the banana and the oatmeal, because you need to fuel your body!

my wife was eating less than 1000cals.. i told her she waisting her muscle and is just going to regret it down the line... 6 months later.. shes eating 1800 cals and telling me she should have listened to me cuz her muscle started to grow and she looks thinner and leaner...

but for your question.. wake up earlier and eat oatmeal before your shower or anything.. so u have about 40min-1hr to diegest so you dont feel sick there..

I'm really trying! It's difficult after I trained myself to eat so little. I went about dieting the extreme way and now I'm trying to get back up to at least 1,000 cals. I'm aware of the problems it causes. I tell people all the time about my nails cracking and my hair thinning. I just need support and ideas from you guys. It's greatly appreciated and I use every little piece of advice I can. :)

I agree with everyone here. Oatmeal before, and the banana afterwards. Now... if only they had banana's here at the base I'm at every day... And they limit us to fruit... only two pieces per person per day. Shame, really...

I would go with oatmeal before and banana after... but...

I checked your food diary, and it is ALARMİNG how little you are eating. I see that someone else has suggested that you eat more, and I whole-heartedly agree. You aren't doing yourself any favours by eating so little. I am aware that it could be a sensitive subject, but please try to get your calorie count up. Throw in some almonds, dried fruit and peanut butter to help get that count up. 1200 per day is a MINIMAL allowance for women (lower for some, sure, but that is a basic number).
Seriously... alarm bells were ringing as soon as I checked your diary. That is my 2cents.
PS, my food diary is open, you can see in comparison how much I eat, and I am certainly not putting on any weight. I know it's different for everyone, but do be careful.

I really apprecite everyones concern. Like I said, I'm really trying to get back on track. I just started increasing on Sunday.I can't just start eating an extra 500 calories a day. It would make me sick. I've increased it by about 200 this week, and I'm going to try to get it up even more next. I posted my breakfast and lunch for today because my weight training was canceled, if you want to take a look. I changed it up with some of your suggestions.

I would eat oatmeal/banana/whey either before or after workout. Doesn't really matter, just eat it :) Depending on what sort of workout I am doing, I may not want to feel full while doing it so in that case I eat big after. But yeah, both of your choices don't have any protein which is not optimal.

Depending on how cardio-intensive your workout is, I would suggest the banana first and oatmeal after. From what I've heard, you want the simplest carbs prior to cardio so that your body can use the energy right away. Oatmeal takes a bit longer for your body to digest and you won't get the most use out of the energy consumed as you would with a simpler carbohydrate.

Looking at the above discussion regarding your food diary, and your aims, I would suggest working toward having the oatmeal with the banana before, followed by a glass of milk and some nuts after. Those are some great ways to get extra (healthy) calories in, without feeling real weighed down.

That's a good idea. I need some healthy nuts first, lol.

Why not add the banana into the oatmeal? I add fruit to my oatmeal all the time. It's okay to have two bananas (one chopped up in the oatmeal and one for after your workout). Have the banana with protein in the form of a shake or with a cup of plain, non fat Greek yogurt and a pinch of cinnamon and maybe a teaspoon of honey.
