I've started to get extreme hunger pains that makes me feel sick, I'm eating 1600 calories, I'm 5 ft and work in a physically demanding job, is my body telling me to eat more?

Maybe, maybe not. Hunger signals can be pretty unreliable.0

You may be eating too little if:
- Your constantly cold
- frequently tired
- grumpy
- losing weight quickly
- loss of libido
- poor nails, hair
- continually hungry
but, any of these could be due to other factors.2 -
Have you changed the make up of your diet recently? cut out any food groups? 1600 sounds okay for your height and possible exertion levels but it might be worth upping it to 1800 for a couple of weeks to see if the hunger pangs subside. Re-evaluate after that and if you have been losing weight even at a higher calorie level, then keep it at that.0

You sound hungry and that is not a lot of food if you are basically working out all day. You might just be eating too many carbs and not enough nutrient dense foods.0

Have you been losing weight on 1600 calories? Have you made other changes to your diet that could be causing the pains?

Yes, if it's that extreme I would trust your body.0

Yep, you're hungry. It is slightly worrying you no longer understand the cues of your body. Seems you've been restricting yourself far too long. Anyway, eat up because clearly 1600 cals isn't enough to fuel you.0

It could be that your choice of food is poor too. For example, eating 500 calories of bread instead of lean meat and veggies... one will fill you up, the other won't.
Impossible to say without more info.0 -

How many pounds of weight loss do you have per week? If its more than a few pounds, your calories in are too low!0
-
Could this happen if I've been restricting too much? Been dieting at least a year0
-
Yes, a year is a long time, but again how much loss do you show each week?0
-
At 1600 two pounds, a bit higher it is one pound0
-
As I got nearer my goal weight I lost one pound a week, for me a two pound loss would have been too exhausting.
Maybe move your calories upward a hundred and see if you feel better. Thats my best advice and you can be content with a slower loss that will allow you to stay active in your life. Its worth it I think.1
