Trying to lose weight as a vegan

I used MPF years ago and lost weight steadily, then hit a plateau so joined WeightWatchers for a bit which seemed to shift the weight. Over the past 2-3 years it's been creeping up bit by bit and now I'm actually heavier than when I started! Obviously I'm a few years older so that's a contributing factor. My diet has also changed considerably and I've stopped eating any animal products. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to start losing weight again??

Start counting calories again. Measure everything with an actual scale, not by 'cup' or 'slice', or '3 medjool dates'. Go by grams. And I mean, -everything-. Measure that dash of oil before you put it in!
Stick to this for a few weeks. If you are curious, cook as you normally would amount-wise, but measure to see how much you've been ingesting. Seems to be an eye opener for people. Vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, omnivore... All diets have things that are high in calories and low in volume, whether nutritious or junk. Oreos are vegan, for example. Dun dun dunnnn.3 -
It is very easy to gain weight as a vegan. There are so many junk food items that are vegan! That's why I decided to count my calories because, although I'm a vegan, I was starting to gain weight. Veganism is a great way to lose weight if you're eating the right foods and getting some type of excersize!0

I'm a long-term vegan -- I successfully lost weight counting calories. Weight loss happens for us just like it does for everyone else -- by consuming fewer calories than we're burning.
Veganism isn't a weight loss diet -- people can gain weight, maintain, or lose weight as a vegan.2
