Has anyone else met with a dietitian before? I've been trying to lose a pound a week and the last two months I've only lost 4 pounds going from 123 to 119. This last week I only lost .2 pounds. I'm wondering if it helped anyone else with their food.

It's a good rate of loss. At 123 pounds you probably don't have much to lose.2

I meet with one once a month. She's been really helpful as far as helping me not get too restrictive on my diet, and she helps me keep things in perspective. For example, when I feel like I had a 'bad month', we talk through it to figure out 1. was it really a bad month? and 2. how can I tweak my diet to try to be more consistent.
If you have insurance, it might cover some of the visits, too.
Not all dieticians are created equal, so if you try one you don't really connect with, you can always try someone else!0 -

Yeah my insurance covers it so other than a possible $5-10 copay I can do it very in expensively.
I was just curious if it was worth it for the time. I don't have a lot of time to go to appointments.0 -
I have not met with one for myself, but met with one for awhile with my dad...but that was to address medical conditions that he had. I suppose they could be beneficial for losing weight, but I guess I think of them as more beneficial for simply addressing proper nutrition, particularly if you have a medical condition that requires a specified diet.
In terms of your weight loss, it's going to be slow...you don't have a bunch of fat to lose...you're already pretty small.2 -

At your weight a pound a week is fairly aggressive. The 0.2 loss in a week is pretty normal since you are at a lower weight (without knowing your height).0 -

0.5 Pounds weekly, is a healthy rate of loss; for your weight. Also because of factors within & beyond your control, weight loss weekly; won't be consistent. For instance I'd gain 5 pounds of water weight because of menstruation, other factors include sodium, muscle repair & waste!0 -
I met with one a couple years ago. Since I have pcos and am insulin resistant I went to one that dealt with a lot of diabetic patients. I also had one 20 some years ago when I had gestational diabetes. The second go around reaffirmed what I had already learned. My doctor suggested it instead of weight watchers. I wanted the accountability of having to weigh in. As soon as the insurance didn't cover the visits anymore I lost the accountability. This time I am trying it on my own since I know what works and what to do.
However, I highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling or needs some guidance. Make sure you go to a registered dietician and not a nutritionist.0 -
My RD is awesome! We can't meet right now due to personal health struggles, but she has me on a pretty good reduction plan with great macros for me. She understands my disabilities/limitations and we plan accordingly. She is also a fabulous listener and will not bash me for bringing up any concerns or questions.0
