convincing myself

Okay. So I have quite frankly never been to a gym. I have one very near my house but the thing is that I havent a clue how to work the machines. Do I do it myself? Ask a friend to come with me? I have a hubby that would go with my but somone needs to take care of the kids.
Why am I sooooo... nervous about going to the gym? Maybe it is because one of my friends told me not to worry about the "pretty" people there. I didnt have that big of a complex before but I do now! Seriously it is that hard to run the machines?
Help me talk myself into this.

many gyms offer a consultation with a personal trainer or a "get acquainted" session for a small fee and some even offer it for free. I understand though, if you have never been to a gym the machines can be quite intimidating. FYI, people in the gym are not mean or judgmental, just remember that they had to start somewhere too to get where they are today. My advice, if you can't get in with a trainer ask someone who looks friendly to give you a few pointers. You can do it, these things, as with anything, just take practice!!

ok.. well all I'll tell you is that I have lost 8lbs in 3 weeks just by walking around the neighborhood and logging my calories. If you really want to go to the gym.. stick with the treadmill or an eleptical.. super easy machines to do..just get on and press start! Great cardio workouts.. but again seriously walking two miles in the neigborhood is working great for me and you and your husband and kids can do it together.0

I need to get some new insoles. I have planter efecitis (sp?) and my heel kills me but I cant help but think that if I get some of this weight off it will get better. I went on a 2 mile walk last week and I was in sooo much pain from that.
Time to make the list and do it and not talk about it. Thanks!0 -
oh my gosh I was so afraid of the gym! And still am until I get there It makes me nervous cuz I am always like "what are people going to think of me" " are they going to think Im gross cuz I sweat alot?" the list goes on....
but honestly once you actually get to the gym it is a lot better then you think it would be. Most all of the machines have specific directions printed on them, and if you can't understand them people are getting paid to help you!
I have been to a dozen gyms and everyone is always SUPER nice, also most gyms now a days have an all womens room which makes it a lot more comfortable- and to be honest nobody looks pretty when they are truly working out, and if they look pretty then they are not putting in effort
Besides once you leave the gym you feel so accomplished! I promise just get yourself to the gym and you will see how much more fun it is to work out there and how your body reacts to all the different machines (you'll see a difference pretty fast!) I love the gym and would never exercise anywhere else!
Good luck and I hope you go!0 -
I was pretty nervous before joining the gym a week and a half ago - I didn't know the first thing about what I should be doing there. The gym I go to is part of the local university, and they have students manning the place who are going to school for physical therapy and trainers, so I just asked one of them to help me figure out what I should do, how long, and to show me how to use the machines so I didn't look so dumb! He was great, and asks me every day if I need help with anything. I would think any gym you join should have someone who could do that much without having to pay extra...and don't worry about "pretty" people. I have yet to see anyone intimidating at the gym - we'll all there for a reason. Good luck!0
