Wedding mags/websites

I just got engaged last week  but I have never really given much thought to what I would like in terms of ANYTHING regarding a wedding! Does anyone have any suggestions for wedding magazines, websites, blogs that are worth checking out? I'm already signed up on The Knot and love that site so far...

No date yet, but I'm just looking for places to get ideas and learn what I like/dislike, etc...

Congrats on the engagement! I got married a little over a year ago. I used theknot.com myself. Super easy to use. Loved it. Also, checkout there free wedding website that you can set up for yourself to keep all your family and friends up to date on all wedding details. Congrats again! Happy wedding planning. It was my FAVORITE thing to do! LOL

I used The Knot for almost everything. I also purchased a wedding planning book. I can't remember what it was called, but it mentioned things I never would have thought of. Best of luck & congratulations!

For something other than the traditional "cookie cutter wedding" I highly recommend offbeatbride.com
Tons of fabulous weddings for ideas and inspiration!

I forgot to add, Congrats on your engagement!!

Also, if your city has a bridal show/expo, go to it! You will meet tons of vendors and see whats out there... plus I've gotten over a years worth of Brides magazine totally FREE (normally about $5-6 per issue)

Rocknrollbride.com is brilliant, and it features different kinds of weddings, and stylemepretty.com is fab too. I won't advise on wedding mags as I'm in the UK. I used Etsy.com a lot of buying things for my wedding - jewellery, menus, flower hair accessories, all handmade, gorgeous.

    Congratulations by the way!

    Weddingbee.com
as for magazines they are mostly pictures of wedding dresses you cannot afford (well I cannot afford), I was shocked that I liked Martha Stewart Wedding the best

Yay! Congrats! I got engaged on Christmas Eve and am in the midst of wedding planning. Brides magazine and website have a lot of useful information. The Knot puts out a magazine also, it's pretty good, too. I'm not sure what type of style you have or if you like Martha Stewart, but she has a wedding website also, so good DIY ideas if you need to keep to a budget.

    Here are some websites!
    http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/
    http://www.weddingchannel.com/
    http://www.brides.com/
    http://www.getmarried.com/

Also, check out www.etsy.com for handmade wedding decor, accessories, stationary, etc. I found a girl who custom designed my invites, save-the-dates, programs, etc. for a really reasonable price!

    Good luck and have fun!

    Thanks for all the responses!

I have flipped through some wedding magazines and found most of them just alright...I think maybe websites will provide more (for free!)

There's a wedding expo in Chicago in October I'm setting my eyes on going to :)

Congratulations! I don't know about the other stuff but I do know wedding cakes! cakecentral.com is a site much like this one but for cake decorators and has a HUGE gallery of cakes. If you have no idea what you want that might be a good place to begin looking at ideas for that.

I have no advice about websites. I'm not the marrying kind. But I wanted to drop some advice as my best friend is a florist and event planner. I go with her to expos for the food and booze. Sign up for everything at the expos you attend. They do raffles for free stuff and discounts on products you might need.

Make friends with people in the business. Like my friend the florist she is more inclined to discount and give extras, give you information about her connections to other wedding-related services and items if you take the time to patron the shop before you NEED-need her and just hang out and talk with her.

PS - the library is free and you can learn how to do some of the things you want at your wedding yourself.

I love free stuff! And also DIY stuff :)

I have 2 photographer friends, not sure if I would want to ask them to do the wedding (I probably will), but I'm definitely going to ask one of them to do engagement photos.

My brother's girlfriend works at a Jared jewelry store back home and I was surprised when my guy didn't go through her when looking at rings!

CONGRATS! I'm getting married next July (A YEAR AWAY TOMORROW!!!!!!) and LOVE looking at wedding stuff.

TheKnot.com is good.. WeddingWire.com... and I am always googling stuff at work haha As far as magazines, I know they have NJ Bride and Philly Bride (where I live) and I am sure they have other states.

I've gotten most of my ideas from just googling things I like.. we are having a SUBTLE disney theme wedding and I have found SO many ideas for favors, place cards, table arrangements...

good luck! planning is so fun but it will seriously go by so fast. I got engagd in December and cannot believe my wedding is literally a year away!

And ALWAYS use your friends if you trust them and have seen their work! My fiance's best friend is a priest so we are using him, and we are most likely asking 2 college video students I know to video tape it for WAY less money than I would pay for a "professional" studio. Finding ways to save $$ is part of the fun :)
