Disclaimer!!! Don't read this if you are eating or have a queasy stomach....:embarassed:

I have been really exhausted lately and blahhh well about a month or so ago i noticed i was constipated a lot due to gallbladder removal and narcotics i was on.. sometimes i would have a bowel movement and i would wipe all bright red blood i was told to watch it and it was likely from pushing too much due to the narcotics and constipation. Now i am over 2 months out from surgery i had a BM this morning with no problems.. this afternoon i felt like i was pushing the 1st time a little but it didn't hurt again i wiped all blood and some in the toilet as well i know this is way disgusting! I am nervous as to what can possibly be going on? I am not on pain meds anymore... the nurse at my doctors asked if i get exercise and i said yes almost everyday. My diet seems pretty good, and i am losing weight so i doubt it's something related to a poor diet if any diet was poor it was when i weighted 401 lbs and was eating probably over 4,000 calories a day... but i didn't have that problem then so why now?

She said maybe i can try a protein shake? I don't know what could be causing this.

That would be something I would immediately call the doctor about. Could be serious.

Maybe hemrhoids (spelling?) You really should talk to your doctor.....I used to work for a gastroenterologist, not uncommon. You might even want to take a sample with you......

A manager of mine had this exact same scenario. Painkillers cause constipation, and it's quite common to get hemorrhoids afterwards.

DEFINITELY see a Dr about it though. Just in case. Other things cause that too, which aren't as harmless as roids.

Go see your doctor. The doctor needs to see if the blood is coming from the surface, when you are cleaning, or inside the colon, which indicates other issues.

Same thing happens to me. I went to the doctor and they ran a bunch of tests and did an exam. It is an internal hemorrhoid that ruptures every once and a while from pushing. I was told if it is bright red blood it is coming from near. It is when it is dark blood that you have to worry about, which means it is coming from deep inside.

Maybe just let it come out instead of pushing it out? Relax with a magazine or something.

Def call your doctor. Bright red blood can be dangerous if it isnt hemorrhoids.

Bright red blood is usually haemorrhoids or a fissure (cut) dark blood or even black tarry stools are what you should be really nervous of
    however SEE a PROFESSIONAL!

Sounds like hemiroids.(Spelling) If they were bad( or internal) they could bleed. Also medications could have damaged something inside. Never play around when there is blood involved. Go to the doctor. Hope everything comes out okay.
    pardon the pun!!

yep, me thinks so too, but I would call your doctor even still, just to be on the safe side.

Definitely definitely see a doctor. HOWEVER, don't panic because it is probably related to a fissure (small tear) or hemorroids because it sounds like you are constipated and because the blood is bright red - which typically means it is something external and not internal - (internal problems usually result in a dark or black stool or dark or blackish blood). Take a stool softner as instructed on the package (something like Ducolax which is readily available over the counter - generics are good and MUCH cheaper) for several days. After a stool be sure to wipe completely but gently/carefully. You may want to get some hemorrid wipes which have cleansing, soothing, and healing agents in them. Drink plenty of water...like no less than 12 glasses a day. Eat plenty of fruit (apple, raisins, prunes, melons -no bananas - but beware some fruit, like watermelon mimics the look of blood). Even apply some hemmorridal ointment externally. You should get relief if it is a fissure. Please know I am no doctor...not even a nurse - I just have had similar issues over the years. Please be diligent and smart. FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR DOCTOR. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry, how on EARTH is a protein shake going to help????

It does sound like piles, which are painful but not serious. But it could be more serious, so go see your doctor. And don't rely on a bunch of advice from some internet unknowns
  • I would have to say that I agree with everyone else - see your doc. But be careful about just assuming it is a hemorrhoid or a fissure.... I had something very similar and it turned out to be an anorectal fistula - still nothing too terrible, but it could have been if I hadn't seen a doctor. Until then, I would definitely use an OTC stool softener as directed, drink lots and lots of water, and be sure that you are eating enough fiber. I hope you are okay though, and that it is something simple with a simple fix!

I have never done drugs, but I am familiar with them in other forms...

I am not sure what narcotic you are using, and whether it is being abused or not, but I am guessing the constipation is from a drug, such as opiates...this is rather common is why I am guessing this.

I would also recommend seeing a doctor, but think that while using opiates (my assumption, no idea if I am right) you should try and eat more fiber and stay as hydrated as can be. I think the blood is from the constipation...

Awkward question, but do you poop every day...or every few days? If it is the later, I would again recommend upping fiber intake.

    Good luck!

ps: Please be careful of constipation. Colon cancer is one of the most fatal forms of cancer, and having hard waste stuck in their for days is probably not the best thing for the colon. ^.^

I had this exact problem - I ended up having colitis - or chronze disease. You need to get it checked out! Make an apointment today!!! I will say if it is that it is treatable but not fun and can be helped by eating different things as well. Good Luck!

Agree with everything here, just wanted to add the importance of the water, particularly if you are increasing your fiber rich foods-whole grains, vegetables etc.

I am not on any narcotic pain killers anymore. I had them for about a few weeks after my surgery.. they were vicodin and percocets. I haven't been on them in a while. But when the bleeding 1st started i figured it was constipation due to those meds causing the bleeding.

Also i go everyday from 2-3x a day usually.

It's most likely hemorrhoids. But you should definitely see a doctor to see whats up. Bloody stools can be a sign of something seriously wrong, like cancer.
