I started my fitness journey in late June 2016. I'm down 29.4 pounds. I am thrilled with the slow and consistent weight loss!! When i eat ice cream (& i do) i don't feel guilty. I just log it like anything. I feel empowered by logging my food and i eat much healthier because i do my veggies, fruits, etc often. I'm so excited with MFP i try to share... but nobody wants to try it. They just don't want to log their food. Anyone relate to this??

I definitely adore MFP. I saw such great success in several of my friends before I joined which was truly inspiring.
So, I joined, and here I am just days away from my first anniversary and I've lost 117 lbs...and only have like 12 lbs to go before I hit my goal weight. As someone who never lost weight before, I was too scared to even try, MFP probably saved my life.23 -
I absolutely love this site. People ask how I lost my weight and I share. Once I get to the part of logging and weighing food, they shut it down quick. These people want magic. Well, there is a magic method of losing and it's "you". MFP, as awesome as it is, is just an excellent helpful tool to set you on the right road to healthy. Having the support of friends is an incredible bonus, too!

Logging food is a lot of work, especially when you're like me and you have to weigh everything! A lot of people just aren't willing to do the work. I even have a hard time logging. I definitely need to be more consistent.2

Yea, what I keep telling myself is that I have to make the right decision each and every single time.
I don't, and that's okay, as long as I do 99% of the time...and the only way I do that is by telling myself I must do it all the time.2 -
Man, I love MFP because I did the whole food logging thing before - a long time ago, in the dark ages before everything went digital. I hauled that stupid paperback around, trying to find the calorie counts on things - and failing more often than not. MFP is a freaking miracle - just because everybody puts foods into the database and shares them! It is SOOO much faster, and so much easier to keep a more accurate log of foods.
Just awesome. And of course, the forums are greatness, too.

INitially many people did not want to try either. They rather went for the next fad diet that was in the papers.
Now they see how far it has brought me they are starting to reconsider
I eat what I like and just log. It is a habit now (close to three years) and it really is not much more work anymore6 -
I love MFP. I've lost over 210 lbs in less than 2 years using it and when people ask what "program" or surgery I used, I tell them MFP and a walk logger on my phone. They usually look at me like I'm lying. This has been the easiest, most successful "program" for me and it hasn't cost me a dime.
As long as you use the tools and don't lie to yourself, it works. I'm so thankful that I found MFP!!12 -
I agree with everyone here. Logging has really opened my eyes to what I was eating. I love the message boards as well - success stories keep me motivated, food boards exposes me to new ideas / recipes, and the exercise board gives me ideas to vary my workouts.5

Everytime I stop using it for any length of time, my habits revert and my weight goes up. Go figure...So yes, I too love this site.4

I love it here ❤️. Logging has become second nature and I agree with a previous poster that it has really opened my eyes about how much I was eating, much of it mindlessly, and what a reasonable portion is! I eat what I like, including a snack every night. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributes here!6

I've lost 84 pounds. It's taken me just over 2.5 years but this time it's for good. I've lost weight before using shakes but of course, I didn't actually learn how to eat, did I? MFP gives you the tools to do the job right: the logging, the community, the advice in the blogs, and I just can't say enough about it!
A co-worker asked how I had done it and told her exercise and mfp. She came up to me a few days later and said "I can't possibly eat only 1200 calories! It's only noon and i've eaten most of them already!". And she was serious. The thought going through my head was "Yes, you are a snowflake. Everyone else has to work hard and exhibit self discipline to lose weight but you, YOU shouldn't have to". But I didn't. I just kind of shrugged and told her that's what it takes.
I truly believe that MFP is restoring people's health and saving lives. Amazing when think about it, isn't it?10 -

Having the tools to use when i wish..and the forums are great..as you can tell by my crazy number of posts. But I find reading what is on everyones minds and their journeys very motivating and helpful. It gives me a sense of community and I don't feel alone on my fitness journey.5

MFP has helped me get to a healthy weight, which I had never been before and didn't even think was possible. It's also helped me maintain for the past couple years. I'm very appreciative. I also tell people about MFP when they ask what I did to lose weight, although I just mention logging and don't get into the nitty gritty of weighing food unless prompted. I've had the same experience in that most people aren't interested in this method, as it seems like a lot of work.
HOWEVER... Many people who ask how you lost the weight aren't ready to consider MFP right then. Just because they don't join up that day, doesn't mean they won't join later. I've had several people ask me about the site and whether I still use it years after first telling them about it. A few have even subsequently joined MFP and lost weight.3 -
I would be lost without it. I had tried it before, just to log foods, but didn't really get the weighing, deficit, etc. knowledge for it to really work. For me, it really helps take some of the choice and frustration out of eating, because as long as I fill my "food bank" I know what to expect each day and week and I'm consistently meeting my goals. I find the support of friends and forums as a bonus getting to lean to people who have experienced what I am experiencing and have made dramatic life changes. It's so inspiring to see and those successes are what keep me coming back every day.3

MFP has changed my life! I initially found the site and said, "Eh... I'll give it a week just to try out the logging stuff." I found that it really suits my personality - I love data and seeing the effects. I'm almost at 100 days, and around 22 lbs down since I started logging. I never would have believed a simple app works this well!7

Yes, I love MFP so much! I feel the same about not feeling guilt about eating food anymore. I used to see food as "good" and "bad" and did not have a healthy relationship with it. With the support of MFP and the mindset of simply keeping track of my food, I feel so much better! It doesn't feel like a burden at all. I'm so glad that it's helped so many others in this way too!3

I love logging calories, I think the MFP database has significant errors with more than half of entries being wrong. There are major technical glitches which cause significant issues and there are a number of alternative competitors offering a similar product but familiarity is a good reason to stick here and when it works it works well.
The forums are a unique experience, completely at odds with my experience of being a participant or manager of any other forum on the internet.
The posters are amazing, the amount I have learned and continued to learn, the different way I look at things now compared to when I was struggling with yo yo dieting is down to some strong minds I have encountered on here, unfortunaly many of those posters no longer post but there are still some from whom I can learn and I like passing on knowledge I've gained in the hope it will help more people overcome the faddishness and ridiculousness of health and fitness marketing6 -
Me too! I had no control over weight loss before-- it felt like alchemy or luck if I lost weight and a curse or fate if I gained. I just didn't realize how easy it was to get fat eating veggies if I ate too much of them or in conjunction with other bad foods, or that working out a little didn't cancel out bad eating habits. Now I follow CICO with help from MFP and it's working with dazzling precision. Just logging makes me mindful of what I eat and if I have a big overage meal (life happens) I know that getting back to my usual deficit eating will prevent me from ingesting 3,500 extra calories over the course of that week, so I definitely won't gain a pound of fat as a result (maybe water though). I don't have to eliminate food groups or live without treats or do a specific kind of exercise. I just have to stay at a deficit -- it's that easy (angels singing).6

I second your quote. When people ask my how I am losing and I mention logging all your food and weighting it, that's the end of the story.
I love this app, I log in everything good and bad, since I started I think twice before I put something in my mouth and I am making better food choices , before I was eating enough for 2 people and now just enough to fuel my body(well sometimes. A little extra.lol ), I am so glad I am here, I also love the challenges0 -

I love this app, I log in everything good and bad, since I started I think twice before I put something in my mouth and I am making better food choices , before I was eating enough for 2 people and now just enough to fuel my body(well sometimes A little extra.lol ), I am so glad I am here, I also love the challenges

Did you tell her she get's more calories if she, say... takes a walk? You are in total control over how much you can eat in any given day!
