So I am trying to work out how much calories I am supposed to eat each day and whether to eat the calories I have burnt off from excercise.
When I use the BMR tool it says it is 3,945. I heard that this site is supposed to take away 500 for losing one pound a week from your BMR (please correct me if I am wrong). In my goals I have set it to lose two pounds a week, so I guess it should take 1000 off the total.
In my goals it says:
Nutritional Goals Goals
Net Calories Consumed* / Day 3,930 calories/day
Fitness Goals Goals
Calories Burned / Week 2,850 calories/week
Workouts / Week 6 Workouts
Minutes / Workout 60 mins
Your diet Profile Target
Calories Burned
From Normal Daily Activity 4,930 calories/day
Net Calories Consumed*
Your Daily Goal 3,930 calories/ day
Daily Calorie Deficit 1,000 calories
Projected Weight Loss 2.0 lbs/ week
Where does the 4,930 come from and why is my daily goal of 3,930? I thought for someone who wanted to lose weight it should be about 1,600? I am very confused!
I am 5'10'' tall, weigh about 98 kilos at the moment, 21 years old (turning 22 in september), my lifestyle I would say sedatory most days, depending on if I go for a walk or have things to do during the day and now that I am trying to lose weight I try and excercise most days, while also giving myself atleast 1 to 2 rest days.
Thankyou for anyone who can help me out, here is Australia I never use pounds and have never counted calories in my life and my math skills are shocking lol!

that HAS to be wrong! did you use the tools on myfitnesspal? i weigh 207 and to lose 2 lbs a week im supposed to net 1,200 (which means eat thAT + whatever calories i burn)0

I think perhaps your diet target is adding in target exercise as well ? I'm not certain. But there's 2.2lbs to 1kg, so you can divide/multiply if you ever need to convert between the two. I stick to about 1500 calories a day, and I'm 5'4, about 68kg. Aim for 2000 calories a day, and see how that works for you. Then lower it slowly and see how you do.0

Nicky! HI! I am just an old woman (50) from Texas, but it doesn't sound like it figured the goals/deficit correct. Have you tried redoing it? I would use the "Goals" on myfitness pal and redo it, I intake about 2930 calories with a deficit of 1500 calories giving me 1500 per day with a loss of 1.7 lbs per week. I weigh 256, so it doesn't sound like it did it right. Good luck!0

That can't possibly be right. I'm 5'4", and when I started at 215, I was at 2150 per day, sedentary, with a 500 cal deficit, putting me at a net of 1650 before exercise.
There's got to be something wrong with the calculation.
When I put in YOUR info in to the bmr calculator here on MFP, 5'10, 21 yrs old, 216lb, it comes up with
Your estimated BMR is: 1,825 calories/day*0 -
Yeah I used the tools on here... I just knew it had to be wrong, just did not look right, and thankfully I haven't ever reached the daily goal, because that would be way too much. And yeh I'll try sticking to about 2000 calories a day and then eventually lower it, hopefully I'll start noticing some changes soon. Just don't know how to fix the goals on here, because it would help to be able to track everything I eat and the excercise I do, to know if I haven't eaten enough or too much etc0

And yeah I've tried changing it over and over and no change lol0

I would check to make sure you have your profile set to sedentary and all the other information is correct. I'm 227 trying to lose 1.5 pounds a week and I'm allowed 1560 calories a day. It *might* have given you more calories because you say you'll workout 6 days a week, but I don't think it would give you THAT many extra calories.
As for eating your workout calories, I personally try not to do that. Occasionally I will eat a not-so-healthy meal, and then I will put in some extra effort to burn those calories. I see better results when I don't eat my workout calories, but you will still see progress if you do eat them. It's really up to you.0 -
Thankyou Becky, that sounds a lot better! Ill see if I can change everything again... lol0

Thanks everyone for your help. I went back into the goals and changed everything to pounds (as before I had it on kilos) and now it works! weird.0
