Hunger and Cold Weather?

The weather has taken a decided dip down in temperature this week. Coincidentally, I have been really hungry lately. It's been really hard to stay within my calorie limits. My diet is essentially the same - high protein, low carbs, low sugar and hitting my fat limit. I've done it, but here I sit at 10pm and I'm hungry.

Has anyone else been feeling this way? Because if it's not due to the weather I need to examine what I've been eating and how to make it more filling.

Interesting....if we are truly just animals.....like certain animals who hibernate like the mammals on this part of the hemisphere...it means eating up and staying inside. Sooooo...how to counteract that....hmmm. Maybe something about where the sun sits signals something. I live on the West Coast, and am always interested in what people do in the winter months when all you really want to do is stay home inside.

    We suffer.

I too have been feeling super hungry as the day grows shorter and temperatures get colder.

I too wonder if our bodies are trying to layer on fat in preparation for winter when food would historically be scarce and harder to find.

I feel the same way and am beginning to swap cold salad veggies for hot soup veggies. I have also been drinking tons of hot tea and home made low sugar hot cocoa after dinner to counter the cravings. :) Good luck and stay warm!!

It can be tough. Yesterday the high was around 50 and it was a bit gray. I find that being active early in the morning really helps me. It helps my energy level and gets me to bed a bit earlier before that snacking urge sets in.

I haven't noticed a difference and I live in a really cold climate. Maybe I am too used to cold. Our highs have been single digits all week. Light deprivation seems to be worse than cold. When we get to December and have sun for only a couple hours a day I find myself more tired and seeking out refined carbs for the energy boost.

I have found splitting up my exercise times helps. I do half in the morning and half mid afternoon. It helps with my moods as well. I do not do well when its been dreary for a couple of days in a row and add the colder temps. Not good. It seems to be the thing that works for me.

One thing you can do to increase the warmth in your home without dialing up the thermostat too much is add humidity. The dryer it is the cooler it'll feel. Otherwise your body will crave more calories to stay warm, and if you're on a severe deficit you may start feeling the cold more often. Try a humidifier.

I tend to eat more thick soups, stews, chilis and curries with a ton of cooked veggies. Lots of volume, hot meals, and low calorie.
