Question for those that skip breakfast

I don't know what happened but for several months now, I wake up feeling great and then as soon as I eat breakfast I am exhausted and no energy. (This issue is unrelated to types of food I eat, I've tried different variations) So I am thinking I am going to switch to skipping breakfast. I wanted to know for those that skip it, do you have a reason why? Do you exercise in the morning on fasting? What time do you eat lunch? How many calories do you eat in total each day? Thanks for the help.

For me if I eat breakfast before noon I become ravenously hungry and eat more than if I skip it.3
-
@singingflutelady What time do you wake up? Do you exercise in the morning or later in the day after eating?0
-
I'm not exercising at the moment as my chronic illness is bothering me but I used to lift heavy mid morning fasting. I wake up 8-9sh usually. I was never a breakfast person.0

I enjoy breakfast but it's also a meal I can easily skip without feeling any more, or any less, hungry by lunchtime.
Doesn't affect my energy levels either way.
Funny enough when I tried the 16:8 intermittent fasting protocol I actually disliked it as I felt restricted.
So now it's really ad hoc breakfast skipping depending on weight trends, enjoyment of food, time available etc. etc.
It's a painless way for me to cut a few hundred calories or alternatively budget for a bigger meal later.
The only time I will always eat breakfast is before a long (3+ hours) bike ride when I want and need the fuel.
Normal duration exercise doesn't need breakfast to fuel it.1 -
Sometimes I feel nauseous after eating breakfast so I'll skip it. If I'm getting in a good early morning workout, I will eat something light an hour before exercising.0

I have started toying with this too, aND it is working well. I have a coffee with half and half and a low sodium v8 so I fend off early morning 6am hangry, then I do not eat again until 10am. I do nurse my coffee that whole time, which I find helps, aad I find it easier to manage my calories the rest of the day. My 10am meal is my usual breakfast of egg, crisp bread, and an orange. Because of this, i can skip my morning snack calories and have a bigger PM snack or dinner when I really want those calories.0

This is 100% me..
I do exercise and it is fasted, start my "break fast" around 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This is usually not breakfast food, but something that is well balanced.. Now I do eat very well at dinner / later night snack to be able to workout fasted, I am careful about this so it does not impact my exercise.3 -
I'm the third one here who feels ravenously hungry if I eat breakfast. It's like I can't shove enough food in my face once I eat breakfast. So I stopped eating breakfast, and I don't eat my first meal until 1-2pm, and I stop eating around 9-10pm. So I do do intermittent fasting, 16:8. I still only consume 1200 a day. It's actually easier for me to consume my calories on IF. If I have anything in the morning, it's only a cup of coffee.1

Love this approach. Agree with it totally.
If you're hungry eat. If not no big deal.
I think a lot of breakfast is mental.
I find that when I am fasting if I skip breakfast by 11 am I am no longer hungry and can go easily until the end of the day. ( working in a desk job )

I get sooooo much hungrier throughout the day if I eat breakfast, so I tend to skip it (plus I like to maximise how much sleep I get in the mornings). Also I just think breakfast foods are generally not very appetising... I'd much rather spend the calories on lunch, dinner or an afternoon snack that I actually really like. When I skip breakfast I eat lunch from 12:00-13:00. I eat 1200-1400 calories a day usually. If I go for a run in the morning I'll go without eating and just have a coffee afterwards before lunch.0

I rarely eat breakfast as it makes me feel sluggish shortly afterward - but I almost always have coffee about 2 hours after waking up. I then eat my first meal about 4 hours after waking up. I work out at night though. I know when I've tried working out first thing and haven't eaten, I end my session ravenous and light-headed. So if I were to work out first thing, I'd eat something small like yogurt or string cheese just to make sure I had something in my system.
I will say though, if I eat breakfast, I modify my meals that day to several small meals instead of a couple larger meals. And I do tend to lose weight faster that way. I just can't do it regularly.
(and because you asked, I usually stick to around 1200 calories in a day, sometimes going as high as 1400 if I eat dessert)0 -

think i'm the fifth or sixth on the 'breakfast just gives my stomach ideas above its station' train. i skipped it for decades and really got tired of the scoldy 80's and 90's people telling me it's the most important meal of the yadablahblah and i'd never conquer wall street unless i was eating my wheaties at 6:17 every day.
however, someone introduced me to whey and 'breakfast smoothies' a few years ago, and now i don't leave home without my yogurt/protein shake. but it might take me a few hours to finish it. i haven't had good results lifting fasted, for whatever that's worth.0 -
I skip breakfast 3-4 times a week usually. I'm just not hungry a lot of times in the morning so no sense in wasting the calories.
As for your other questions-I don't exercise regularly, I usually eat my biggest meal of the day between 11am-noon and I'm in maintenance and eat between 1,500 and 2,000 calories a day (I focus more on weekly calorie totals vs daily and eat less calories during the week/higher on the weekend).0 -
I usually have breakfast very late, like others have posted in this thread, it's better for managing my hunger.
I almost always exercise fasted. I run three times a week, do a body weight program three times a week, and rest the last day. Whether you enjoy exercising fasted or after having eaten is a personal thing.0 -

I am the exact same way.0 -
I use to eat breakfast but I've recently stopped and it's helped me lose weight. In the morning I am never hungry and but I use to always eat breakfast because I thought it was the healthy thing to do. Now I wait until I'm hungry and then have a snack or lunch depending on what time it is.0

I don't eat breakfast because it either will make me hungry 2 hours later, or I get sick to my stomach. I also can't eat before working out. If I do, then I end up spending half my time in the bathroom and I get a stomach ache. I get up anywhere from 8:30 -9:30 every morning. I work out around 10:30 - 11:30.0

I started IF two weeks ago. I love it so much. I do get a little hungry in the mornings but it passes. My appetite has decreased overall as well as cravings. My first meal is generally at 3pm and my last at 9;30 pm0 -

Same here. I don't eat until the afternoon. Now some would collapse without it. Go with your hunger and energy. There's nothing wrong with you doing you.0 -
I tend to feel a bit nauseous if I eat breakfast. I'll have a tea in the morning but that's all until approx 11.30am-12 when I get a bit hungry. I tend to have a larger lunch, usually scrambled eggs or an omelette with veggies.
I'm not exercising... unless you count running after a 2 year old...0 -
I do 16/8 IF (loosely), and only have coffee in the morning. I wake up around 7am and eat at around 1pm. I will exercise whenever it's convenient for that day, whether it's fasted or after I've eaten, and I can't tell much difference. I eat between 1500-1800 calories each day, and IF really lets me eat to fullness for my lunch, snack and dinner. I love it!0
-
I implement IF so my break-fast is sometime between 11-13:00. If eating in the morning makes you feel bad or not be able to adhere to your diet then I would advise trying another eating pattern.0
-
I try to get 1000 calories in before 8am but I wake up at 430-5 am so it could be lunch for some of you that wake up later0

Even as a kid, I was never a morning eater. I prefer to save my calories for my bedtime snacks. So I eat dinner around 6pm, have my snack at 9pm, and then dont eat until lunch at noon the next day, and thats a schedule I can easily maintain0
-
I skip breakfast because I'm not hungry in the mornings. On the rare occasions when I do eat breakfast it just makes it harder not to overeat because it just makes me want to eat more later. When I skip it I rarely get hungry before 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. and a small lunch (around 300 calories) will keep me full until we eat dinner around 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.0

I skip breakfast...
I wish I didn't because I know it's supposed to be a very important meal..But I get up have a cup of coffee and I'm good till 10:30 ish. I snack around 10:30 then lunch 12:30-1..
My body is used to it though I've been like this since I was a child, breakfast food just doesn't interest me.
I meet my calorie goal and I'm losing weight.
Everyone is different! So do what works for you0 -
I exercise in the morning on a 10-13 hour fast (two cups of water and a caffeine pill prior to exercise) and eat my first food of the day immediately following, usually about 11am. On days I don't exercise, I have my water upon waking and it's hit or miss when I eat my first food. I don't think of it as traditional "breakfast", but as "breaking my fast"....however long that fast may have been. It's whatever works for you!0
-
I exercise first thing in the morning (5:30a) and am just not hungry until 1pm-ish or so. I have a couple of cups of coffee, and drink water pretty quickly until that point - maybe that keeps me full? I'm not sure, but breakfast is not big for me. It never has been.0
-
I tend to skip breakfast when I'm in the groove and doing well. I find I'm not particularly hungry in the morning when I'm eating well (no enormous blood sugar crash after a day of fat and starch), and I like to eat a big dinner and have a bedtime snack or a couple drinks. I'm also one of the people whose hunger is spiked by eating breakfast (though I can negate this somewhat by eating a high-protein morning meal).
Right now I'm planning for and eating small, high-protein breakfasts because I'm just getting back into the swing of things after a year of terrible eating. As I adjust to smaller portions and replenish my body with nutritious choices I'll probably cut breakfast again because I won't need it anymore.0
