Hello everyone,
I am just starting this plan and need some advice from anyone who is in the know...
I have Hypothyroid and have gained a lot of weight with it...I have tried to lose the weight in the past but with not a lot of success...I will seem to level off with gain but no loss...does anyone have a good diet/meal plan for this type of thing. Tired of feeling bad and carrying the weight...thx

I don't have much experience I'm afraid although my mums thyroid levels are well in the hundreds (if that means anything to anyone) and she has to stay pretty carb free to lose weight.0

I was just diagnosed with hypothyroid in April. My doctor put me on Armour Thyroid. Within 2 months I dropped 13 pounds without any effort.
Fast forward to today. I am currently on a low-glycemic diet..I eat about 1200 calories a day and hit the gym no less than 5 days a week. I have lost almost 20 pounds..and 7.5 inches..which is huge for me..I am almost down to a size 8..which is a 2 size drop for me.
See if you can see a nutritionist..so they can help with the whole healty eating thing..remember..you need to change the way you eat..not do a diet thing.
Hope this helps..(Oh and another thing...I also have PCOS)0 -
I'm hypothyroid...just gotta try that much harder but its still possible to lose weight...I went from 235 to 165 with a hypothyroid..so, in my case, it wasn't impossible....maintenance is still hard though. It's so easy to gain the weight back..I have to be real dedicated 100 percent of the time....its not fun0

I have the same problem! Are you on medication? When I first started on medication and exercising the weight melted off like butter in the microwave. This time it's not melting as fast!! If your not on medication you really should get some. Good luck!!0

I have had hypothyroidism (Yashimoto's) for over 15 years. make sure you see a specialist and get the right meds for your needs. Take the meds religiously. then get moving.0

I'm afraid I can't really help. I was also diagnosed with hypothyroid but I am drastically underweight. I have a lot of trouble trying to gain weight. Do you have a specialized doctor in Endocrinology? Ask him or her.0

I agree with the above comments on taking your meds. It may seem scary or annoying to have to take a pill every day, but it's so worth it! Stay on top of your diet and exercise, and you'll do it. Slow and steady! I'm a vegetarian and lost weight after that switch, but I don't think it has anything to do with hypothyroid.0

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism this past year, and I was put on low-dosage Eltroxcin by my doctor.
I'm assuming you're on medication to treat it? If not, it might be a good idea to do so. A normally functioning thyroid is important for more things than just weight loss.
Just a note, you can lose weight with hypothyroidism - depending on the severity of course. The way I thought of it when I was diagnosed was that it's not an excuse or an "out" to my weight gain/hard weight loss. And even now, with normal levels, it's not magically easy to lose weight. But it's possible!0 -
Hi - I'm hypothyroid also but on medication to make my thyroid levels normal. I'm presuming you're on medication? If so, then being hypothyroid shouldn't be any barrier to weight loss. Your body should be functioning the same as someone who's got a normal thyroid. This site is perfect for losing weight. I've tried many diets over the years but KEEPING TRACK OF YOUR FOOD INTAKE is the best way to weight loss. Stick to this site religiously, track every morsel of food that goes into your mouth and you will gradually lose weight. Good luck.0
