Intermittent fasting and calorie deficit

Planning to start cutting, iv done IF leangains diet and a plain simple calorie deficit. I was curious to ask you guys but he's my questions.
Would it be better/safe to do IF with your calorie deficit. For example, following the 16-8 fasting hours, I would start eating at 12pm and stop eating a 8pm, eating 1600 calories a day.
Should I just go on a calorie deficit?
Should I just do IF?
Or do you think I can do both and get better faster results?
Thank you to everyone who responds and helps!

To lose weight, you need a calorie deficit... if you choose IF as an eating style because it suits your routine and makes it easier to stick to your calorie goal then go for it.0

16:8 IF protocol is just an eating window to consume your calories.. Its still requires you to be in a calories deficit..

Calorie deficit = speed of loss. Meal timing won't help you lose faster.
Intermittent fasting is a method that helps some people stay on track. Being consistent is key. You don't want to lose too fast. Higher deficits make it harder for your body to support existing lean muscle.

Agreed 100%. I believe the leangains creator started with pure intentions but he kind of went off the rails when he started making all of the additional claims he did about metabolic superiority.2 -
I love IF, I integrate it with IIFYM and can pretty much eat wherever I want and still at a deficit I do 16:8, from 1pm to 9pm1

I just started a 16:8 pattern. I like it. It fits in well with my day and has helped mindless eating at night.0

I love IF and have done well with it. It helps me stay within my calorie limit painlessly. Best of luck with it!0

I do 16:8. It hasnt made anything faster. What it has done is made my progress more consistent because it is much easier to stay within my goals this way, for me.1

I do 8:16. It works for me. I like it.0

I started If 16:8 almost two weeks ago. in theory you should lose even more because you're body is burning fat all morning until you eat at noon. I don't weigh myself..but notice i am losing pretty good. I also don't count calories.
What I notice. First, IF Obviously cuts out hours of snacking and nibbling stuff that adds up calories.
But mostly.. when I do eat.. i have so much more control. I don't feel like eating more because I went so long without food. I've been dividing meals in half and saving them for the next day. Things I'd never ever do before counting calories all day long. I plan on sticking with this a few more weeks to see if it is the right fit for me.
However, if weightless is just the same as before.. I think I'd quit doing it..

In the past (before MFP, heck, before cell phones lol!) I've lost weight by counting calories, but eating all day. It worked but was a struggle, and after a while I stopped counting and gained weight back. Fast forward to a few years ago, and I discovered IF (did 24-day fasts, and also 19/5). This was great, and allowed me to lose weight without counting calories! But then after a while it became more difficult to lose weight, I stalled out, and ended up gaining back weight.
Which brings me to this year--I've finally found the right combination for me! IF 16/8, combined with counting calories by logging on MFP. I only have to wait until 1pm to eat, but I still have a relatively short amount of time to eat my 1500 calories. I feel fuller than I ever have in the past while losing weight. This has been so easy, and I'm happy to say I'll probably be doing this for the rest of my life, or at least for a very long time.2
