Hey! I'm considering buying these DVDs but wondered if any of you have tried them out and could answer a few questions for me . . .

(1) Do the ones that involve cardio REALLY give you a cardio workout? Or is it more of a toning workout?
(2) How many calories do you burn doing them?
(3) Would you recommend them?

Thanks in advance MFP peeps

There are a couple websites that specialize in exercise videos. You can get reviews & video clips. Calorie burn is going to depend upon a number of factors (height, weight, age, gender, exertion level, etc) but cardio generally burns more than strength (toning).

The front page (on TotalFitness DVDs) tells you whether the video is aerobics & toning, toning, or stretching. I've not done barre workouts. But have other Suzanne Bowen DVDs and like them. She is encouraging & informative.

I just find them boring. Not sure about calorie burn because the one I have has very little cardio, is mostly "toning" (whatever that means). I might use it if I can't get to the gym or have some sort of injury that prevents high impact

I don't consider them cardio, only toning. I did them during my pregnancy and still did a HITT cycling workout on the days I did the 60 min barre.
  • Thanks everybody! I think I'll save these for summertime when I can mix them with running. It sounds like they won't give me the cardio I'm looking for.
