Wakeup Call

Hi everyone. My MD told me to get on here and made me download the app at an appointment today - right after she put me on Metformin for pre-diabetes.
Just thought I would come introduce myself... I'm 39 years old and work 2 (sedentary) jobs totaling about 60-70 hours per week, which leaves very little time for good habits, but I'm here and I'm going to start building them. I weighed in at 311 lbs this morning (heaviest I've ever been) and I'm 6' tall, and my BMI was 42 (aka "morbidly obese"). I just logged my first day of food intake today, and will begin by trying to walk 20 minutes a day starting before work tomorrow morning.
Ironically enough, I work in healthcare management and teach radiography courses on the side. I'm into all things paranormal and am a former high school & college athlete. Have a wife and two kids and live in Southern California. Hope to connect with some of you in similar situations as I know I will need some kind of support. I am not sure how much support I'll receive in the home from the family, and I know how much temptation will be present due to the types of food we have in the house. Wish me luck!

My situation is different but all up for supporting people. I work in health care and admire all those that take a wake up call seriously and make an effort to make some changes.

I am the one grossly overweight but my husband has the diabetes. We started in late June just eating healthier. We doors protein and veggies. The protein keeps you full longer. He had lost 20 and I've lost 30. If we can do it so can you! His blood sugar is now normal. Chin up, you"be hot this!0

Hi! Some of your story sounds very familiar. My Doc told me about the app as well: also in the medical field, also work 50-60 hours per week. Start with what you can and add a little as you go. I started out prediabetic and have lost 55 pounds. I still have quite a way to go but it's a process. The app makes me pay attention to what I eat. I hate preparing for what I might be hungry for hours from now but a little knowledge and a small plan have helped me. Good luck. Hang in there and don't beat yourself up if things don't happen quickly. We didn't get this way overnight and it takes awhile to see the changes working.0

Hi. Welcome to MFP community. First off your doctor did the best thing by making you get on MFP. Weight loss is an arduous journey and sometimes fitness buddies and people suffering from similar problems tend to gravitate towards each other and it helps with the motivation. I hope this journey proves fruitful for you. Start small. A 20 min walk maybe, then keep on adding and improving. It really helps. A month ago I couldn't do more than two pushups. Started small. Kept on adding. On day 30 I did 28 in one go. And total 60 in 3 sets.
I would really suggest not to be anxious about seeing results immediately. It obviously will take time and not expecting immediate results will save you from falling off the track which happened with me a lot of times. One can stay motivated only for so much longer without results but like all things we become impatient a little too soon. Wait. Keep holding on. And your body would respond.
