What do you order when you go to a Vietnamese restaurant? This evening I had one shrimp snow roll (not fried) and shrimp Pho (which was simply and boringly broth, shrimp, and noodles). Looking for low calorie foods!
Thanks

Boring here..always gets Beef pho (really yummy)!!! Have friends who swear by vegetarian pho, supposedly healthier. Now that counting calories may once try that, byt won't promise to.

I try to avoid the Pho and any type of stir fry noodle/rice dish. You'd be surprised, rice noodles alone pack a wallop of a calorie bomb with a huge glycemic index and many pho places take pride in providing huge portions of noodles for as cheap as possible. I don't understand why people will rail against Italian food and pasta, yet be OK with pho or ramen. A lot of Vietnamese places will have nice and fresh shrimp or beef Vietnamese style salads though.

I get pho and ask for no noodles, extra bean sprouts.

So, typically an Italian pasta dish is also loaded with calories from fat (butter, cream, etc.) in ADDITION to the pasta calories, and whatever else may be in there. Aside from the noodles in pho, the soup is pretty lean and I find it not too difficult to fit into a day. I've made it at home where it's come out to about 500 calories. I believe the entry for Pho Tai on MFP is somewhere around 650 calories. Fettuccini Alfredo? Upwards of 1000 calories... Not quite as easy to swallow. No pun intended. :)

OP - my go-to is Pho Tai, or sometimes I'll just do spring rolls.

Rice paper rolls. Be minimalistic with the dipping sauce. Fresh raw veggies, lean meat, fresh coriander.

Avoid fish sauce. There are some salads. Broken rice dishes often are just plain rice with meat and veggies. Be careful of the meat as it might have been marinated in soy sauce though.

These are my favorite (Fresh spring rolls). But I don't like that peanut dipping sauce that they serve here, and it's too dry without any.
