Exercise log on MFP

I used to use another site for logging my food and exercise. This other site allowed you to log just about everything: housework, grooming horses, sex(!), you name it. It really motivated me to get out of my chair and get moving. I spent more time with my husband (insert eyebrow wiggly emoticon here), cleaning house and pulling weeds in the flower beds. Why doesn't MFP have those things listed as a form of calorie burning activities? Spending 2 or 3 hours cleaning the house top to bottom or washing the truck or mowing the lawn certainly burns calories. It would be nice if I could account for those.

Those activities are accounted for in the not very active, lightly active, etc. setting when you create your profile. There is no need to log them separately.

Have sex with your husband because you enjoy it, not because it allows you to eat an extra serving of mashed potatoes.

You can account for them if that's what you want to do.

You can add your own personalized Exercise.

I used to do that, but 1.) I got to be overweight doing all that stuff, so I decided that only planned, regular, sustained exercise would count. and...2.) Ain't Nobody Got Time For (all) That.

Here's a link (from "Help") telling you how to add an exercise to the database. Then it will be in your list.

    Enjoy.

MFP gives you a calorie deficit based on your activity level BEFORE exercise. So adding deliberate exercise earns you additional calories.....to eat back. This keeps your deficit in check.

The reason most people wouldn't recommend logging day-to-day activities is because many are already part of your activity level. Logging them can lead to double counting.

Suggestion - wear a FitBit or other activity tracker and then sync it to MFP. What FitBit syncing does is compare your stated activity level to your actual activity level & gives you credit for the difference. Check in the APPS menu above, there are phone apps that may sync too.
