Hi, I'm new to keto and lost some pounds in the last few days following keto diet, but I read somewhere online that this diet is only good for a short period f time and can be harmful over the long run? Any thoughts on this? I need to lose 15-20 pounds

    Harmful? I doubt it...
You might grow tired of it after awhile. Some do, some don't. But you can always switch to something else...

I started keto under the supervision of a physician because I have inflammation and need to lose a lot more than 20 pounds and want it done in under a year. I think it is very possible with the ketogenic diet to not get proper nutrition if you aren't careful, but if followed properly, that should not happen. In fact, it should raise good cholesterol and reduce inflammation and there is a lot of emerging and valid research on its effectiveness in a TON of diseases. If you are concerned about this you might look in to a keto paleo diet instead. But these diets are not easy to follow and take a lot of adjusting. If you have no health issues you might try a regular calorie restricted carb adapted diet and see if that works for you. Those of us who love keto usually found it reduced cravings and other health symptoms.

Provided you get all of your essential nutrients - and aren't in too steep a deficit* -no, it's not harmful.

    * How steep is too steep will be highly variable, per person.

very good website with many TED like talks on low carb and Keto, plus a ton of recipes. Many doctors and nutritional experts. www.dietdoctor.com Also highly recomend a book called keto clarity. From what I have heard from both of these resources, NO, there should be no problem with doing this diet for as long as you want to.

So the gut cleanse, egg fast, and other short term fixes you've been inquiring about on here lately haven't been working out, so now you want to try Keto? Why do you continue to resist the good advice you've been given in every one of these threads that what you need in order to lose the last 10-15 lbs is to focus on maintaining a reasonable calorie deficit and building sustainable habits that you can continue to utilize after your upcoming wedding?

egg fast helped me shed pounds and led me into the keto diet which I was completely unaware of :) Thank you for your advice.Very kind of you.

egg fast is carried out for 3-5 days to break a weight loss plateau. Helped me lose 4 pounds in 3 days. Do look it up online :)

There are no dangers. I've been keto for about a year and a half and know others who have been for years. It's just a way of eating that usually skips sugar, grains, and very sugary fruit. Not bad things to reduce IMO. ;)

Huh. Someone flagged you for egg fasting. Apparently eating eggs for a few days is offensive. :D Odd

It's not an appropriate use of the flags but my guess would be someone felt this was promoting VLCD or other unsafe weight loss measures...
