Hello All,

I am new to the community. I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. I am on the road to living my life a different way. I do like the MyFitnessPal app that I was introduced to.

What I was wondering is if there are others here that have been recently diagnosed or have they been living with it for a long time? I have been experiencing all these changes and while my Endocrinologist hasn't gotten my sugar levels regulated yet, I am fully confident that they will soon. I am still getting used to my sugar bouncing all over the place and this endless feeling of my head feeling drunk without the fun to go with it.

I just wanted to say and introduce myself.

Regards,

Coleman

Hey Coleman, welcome to MFP! :)

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2011. It can be a bit difficult to handle when you're trying to lose weight and exercise but it's manageable. What you gotta keep in mind is that being more active than usual (i.e. by exercising) can lower your blood sugar, so what I try to do is to always keep it a bit too high before I work out. For example when I check it and it's at my goal level, I eat a small snack or some glucose tabs without injecting insulin. Also keep in mind that the effect the workout has on you can be delayed by several hours.

And one thing I'm sure your doc has told you already is to try and not consume a lot of carbs. Less carbs means less insulin and that can also help with the weight loss.

Good luck for your journey and feel free to add me if you need a diabetic weight loss buddy. :)
