Hello. When I started my weight loss I done around 1-2 hours excersize daily, recently I haven't been exercising because I'm really busy or excersizing less and me and my sister were having a debate because she says you can't lose weight without excersize and you have to eat super healthy eg salads every meal no bad foods, I know this isn't true because in still loosing and haven't exercised properly in about 3 weeks as been on holiday but was just curious how much you guys have lost with no exercise and not being extreme healthy?

Many people can lose weight without exercise.

However, daily exercise is necessary for cardiovascular health.

You can do it with a calorie deficit and no exercise for sure. Exercise makes the body stronger and makes everyday life easier though.

You can't maintain muscle without using it. You can absolutely lose weight without exercise but some of that weight will be muscle.

I can lose weight without working out, but my body is measurably smaller when I do work out, given the same weight.

So for example, I am currently a size 14 jeans at 162. The last time I weighed 162 (not working out/exercising), I was a 16, and a tight 16. I don't think it is a case of sizing changes/vanity sizing as tops I have from that time which fit well then are very loose and floppy on me now.

But sure, you can lose weight (pounds) without working out. I do believe the larger part of the equation for most people is the food, not the exercise. I exercise for two things: a tighter body, and my health.

Weight loss is about eating less calories than you burn. End of!

Those calories can be cheeseburger or salad or any combination of food you like to your calorie limit

You increase your burn by moving more and purposeful exercise so can eat more

Health and body composition is not about this. But scale weight loss is

I don't do structured excercise routines but lose the weight easily. I found the more weight I lose the more I feel like being more active.

    This. Yes.

Your sister is wrong you can most definitely lose weight without one bit of exercise and you could eat nothing but cheeseburgers and Oreos and still lose weight as long as you're in a caloric deficit (consuming fewer calories than you burn).

Your body burns a certain amount of calories just to keep you alive (breathing, organ functions, digestion, keeping your body at a constant temperature, etc) and you burn a certain amount of calories with ordinary daily activities (walking, talking, thinking, etc). So as long as you eat fewer calories than what your body uses doing these things you will lose weight- and it doesn't matter what foods those calories come from (for weight to be lost).

BUT... you will lose weight more quickly with exercise because it does burn more calories, it also is good for health in general. And when you are in a caloric deficit your body will pull energy from both body fat and muscle to make up the difference in calories it needs from you eating less. When you use your muscles and eat enough protein it helps prevent you from losing as much muscle as you would being sedentary. You will have a better end result and physique if you exercise. It's also a good idea to eat nutritious foods for optimum health, but that certainly does not mean you need to eat salads every meal and nothing "bad".

Let me guess- your sister is overweight? That's what a lot of overweight people think you have to do to lose weight. I know that's what I thought for a long time. It's more about math than anything, not killing yourself in the gym and eating like a rabbit. If anything that's probably counterproductive. Get your sister to start using myfitnesspal and she'll see. Or show her your weight loss graph (its in "progress").

As has been said above; you can lose weight without exercise. However without exercise, the proportion of muscle lost will increase which in the long term is counter productive. Unless completely immobile for medical reasons, I would say to do any form of exercise you can manage.
