ChaLEAN Extreme Weights

Really interested in getting ChaLEAN Extreme but wanted to know from some loyal CLX peeps how much equipment I'll also need.
I'm in Week 11 of Turbo Fire so I'm not as pathetically weak as I was, but still a beginner, especially to lifting heavy.
Dumbells
Are the adjustable ones the best way to go?
If so, which brands have you guys liked?
What weight range should I get, 5lb - 25lb?
Giant Ball (I thought I saw one in one of the promo videos)
Is it necessary?
Anything else I'll need???
thanks!

I'd get resistance bands. I bought some cheap adjustable weights from Wal Mart but they are really bulky for some of the moves. I'm taking a break from CHX to focus on losing some fat first (week 3 of Turbo Fire) but when I hybrid the 2 I'll be picking up a few more resistance bands for CHX.
That's all you need, the program, weights that go from 5 to 30-40 lbs each or resistance bands and a yoga mat if you're on a very hard surface.0 -
I bought hand weights for CLX. I have 5s, 8s, 10s, and 15s. They have done just FINE for me throughout the entire program. During the hybrid I may get some 20s but that's about as high as I ever plan on going!! There are no balls to be had in the program at all (except for Mike and Tony i suppose). All you need are hand weights or resistance bands & a thigh toner (optional) that comes with the program itself (in some cases it may not)
It's a great program but I wouldn't say it's good for fat loss necessarily. I have lost a considerable amount of inches, but not so much weight (none to be exact and I'm nearly done the entire 90 days). My body has changed in shape though so I'm happy with the results and it's a great program to follow,0 -
I started ChaLean Extreme and I have to say I didn't really like it with the bands. You combine many moves so I felt when you do the leg work combined with arms I lost out when just using bands as you don't have resistance when you go down (in lunges etc).
I usually really like the bands. I have done a few P90X workouts and Slim in 6 and loved them but for ChaLean Extreme didn't like them. I personally want to give it another go once I have weights. However I was never sure which weight range I should have. So I would be interested in the answer too0 -
ChaLEAN Extreme is by far my FAVORITE program!! I have done a lot of these and I have seen the best results with CEX!!
I personally like free weights, I feel they give me a better, harder workout, and keep my heart rater higher. Right now I have free weights but I would love someday to get the Bowflex Select Tech ones, but they are extremely expensive. If I were to get the adjustable weights I would get a range of 5 lbs to at least 25/30 lbs (for me-I am a very small person) and I would get increments of 2 1/2 lbs-b/c it is easier to work your way up. I started out using 5, 8, 10, 15 lb weights. But resistance bands are good too, and not as expensive... It is just personal preference.
As far as the ball goes, you don't need that unless you buy the ChaLEAN Extreme deluxe package. The ball comes free if you purchase it. You have options of ChaLEAN Extreme, ChaLEAN Extreme Deluxe (comes w/ regular CEX and 7 other workouts, ball, gloves, 2 resistance bands) or just the Deluxe package.
Thats about it in a nutshell!0 -
Love ChaLEAN Extreme. I fund that it is the first program that I can really see and feel the results immediately.
I started with the bands the 1st 2 weeks of my program but ended up buying the Select Techs when I saw a coupon for 40% off ($239). I finished the program back in June and looking back on my notes, I was lifting was anywhere from 5-30lbs. I use the 12.5-17.5lbs the most. I personally like the weights better than the bands but that's me. As for other things you need, I think the thigh toner was the only other thing used.0 -
I plan to do the hybrid first with turbo fire to get the fat burning in too. Anyone tried that?0

I also love, love, love CLX and I also prefer free weights to the bands. i started out with 5, 8 and 10, but quickly found that I needed to move up, so I bought adjustable weights that ranged from 5-25 lbs. I found them on overstock.com very reasonably. They go up in 5 lb. increments, so I supplemented by using 1-lb. weight gloves for the few times when one weight seemed too light, but 5 lbs. more seemed too heavy. I got the gloves at Walmart for about $12. Last fall, I found an online coupon for 40% off SelectTech weights, so I took the splurge and just love them! Keep Googling "selecttech coupon" - eventually, you may find one!
As to ranges, the first time I did CLX, the weights ranged from 5 - 15/20 lbs. Now, four rounds later, my weights range from 10 - 30 lbs.0 -
Thanks guys! It's exciting to see so many that love this program!
I'm doing the bands on the two strength classes in Turbo Fire and not loving them all that much. So I think I'd prefer the dumbbells. Plus with the bands, I never know how consistent the resistance is cuz you can grab an inch lower or higher and it changes a lot.
WOW - those select techs are expensive!
Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells Pair (5 to 52.5 lbs.) - $399.00 :noway:
You get a free stand with that but still - gawd! Will definitely be looking for a coupon should I go this route.
Saw some on Amazon by Jillian Michaels for $158/pair though. Reviews looked pretty good and there were even two that talked about CLX specifically.
I think I'm going to try CLX on it's own for a while and add in Turbo Fire as needed. I'm really looking forward to the 5 days/week schedule honestly. But I do have 12 more pounds to lose too, which I guess I need more cardio to do that, right?0 -
I actually have lost the MOST, FASTEST with CEX........ you would think not, but it was for me!! It does come with 2 pretty hard cardio videos. I would give it a try and see what happens!0
-
I love CLX, i am on my last day of Burn and will start Push on Monday. I have been using the free weights and love them. I have noticed alot of changes in my body already but as far as weight loss i have seem none.0

Going strictly by the scale to monitor your progess, especially for a strength training program like CLX is not going to be a true measure of your progress. This program has you adding muscle while you are decreasing fat, so you are 'losing weight' by losing fat, but 'gaining weight' in increased muscle at the same time. Additionally, your muscles may begin to retain some water as they 'repair' during weight training sessions, which will also affect the scale. Your best bet is the tape measure, your mirror and your bodyfat calipers (if you have them). You will lose inches and your clothes will fit better - but the scale may not necessarily reflect that, so don't set store completely by the scale!
Remember your goal is really to lose fat, right? So who cares what it says on the scale if your body fat level is going down, your body is shrinking and you are feeling awesomely strong?0 -
I plan to do the hybrid first with turbo fire to get the fat burning in too. Anyone tried that?
I went from Insanity to the CLX/TF hybrid. Love them both!!
I think CLX is easier with the hand weights. The bootylicious bowler move in CLX is a piece of cake with the free weights but I can NOT do it with the band in TF Sculpt 30.
I bought a set of adustable weights from Sears that I like. You can lift A LOT with your legs.0 -
I am actually finishing up a round of CX tomorrow! I bought adjustable weights (5 to 25lbs) at Kmart and they are awesome. I wasn't too thrilled with the cardio that came with CX so I substituted Turbo Fire workouts instead. So far I have lost a total of 25 pounds and many inches during this round. I can't wait to see where round 2 takes me!0

Which adjustable weights did you guys get?0

Going shopping tomorrow! Going to look at Academy, Sports Authority, ****'s, and Target. Excited!
Let you guys know what I purchase.0 -

I bought this set. If you go through ebates.com you can get cash back too. I had a coupon for free shipping at the time. The box they come in was super heavy. The UPS man was dying. I opened it right where he dropped it and carried it in, piece by piece.0 -

I've looks at those! Are the pins holding the weights metal? Also, is it only adjustable in 10 lb increments?0 -

The red tab you pull up to adjust them is plastic but the part holding the weight to it metal. They adjust by 5 lb increments.0 -

Got mine in yesterday. What weights did you end up getting? I don't have any yet.0 -
Ended up just getting a more free weights... for now.
We already had a set of 5lb and 15lbs. So I just got 3, 8, and 10 pound pairs. They were really cheap and will be good for me, a beginner. I played around with some of the adjustables and wasn't all that excited once I saw how BULKY they all were. And none of them had very smooth dials/sliders, a lot of fumbling while testing.
Pretty much all set, just waiting for the mailman!0 -

I was doubling up the free weights for my leg exercises...kind of balancing them sideways across the other weight and my hand andd holding with a finger or two. Not the most comfortable maneuver but It was ok for the leg moves.
My adjustable weights don't adjust the easiest either but the reviews said they get easier after a while. Has to be easier than my double weight maneuver!0 -
Bump in case anyone finds a new deal on Selecttechs...:bigsmile:0

When I did CLX, I bought some free weights/dumbbells, etc. off of Craigslist AND some up to 40 pound free weights from Walmart x2. The ones from Walmart make it so you can use 10-20 pounds on each dumbbell. Anyway, I put those weights together and used these sizes...
5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30
I think the bands would work.0
