Hi all-My aunt is doing Ideal Protein with tons of success. I'm thinking of trying it in the new year. I wanted to see if anyone on here had completed the phases with success. I'd love to hear success stories, but also if the program did not work for you. Thanks!

Can you tell us what it consists of?

I have a friend who has success on it. She was obese and has the lifestyle to both accommodate & afford special meals/shakes/ingredients. She also needed something to get her kickstarted as her weight was very high and her health was starting to be affected greatly. For her, it was Ideal Protein.

I think it's just 1 in a zillion options for commercially-assisted-weight-loss (if that makes sense). If you are interested in using products like this then go for it (and why wait until 2017?).

I should add that I think her total carb intake for the the DAY is 25grams????

I don't know much about it other than what I've observed via her.

    MFP is way cheaper :-)

A couple of years ago, I had about four co-workers who did this. All lost a massive amount of weight. Currently, they're all larger than they were before they did it. It is a crash diet - VLC and not something you can maintain.

Losing weight is just the first step. Unfortunately, that's the only step a great many people consider when choosing a weight loss method. How do I lose the weight?

Elimination diets, meal replacement shakes, and other temporary lifestyle changes do not help us figure out why we are fat. These types of diets don't address step 2 - How do we keep the weight off?

My Fitness Pal is designed for people to measure portions & log them. It's design makes users accountable. Logging our regular foods - all of them - helps us figure out what we are doing wrong.

I tried the shakes and I just thought they were pretty gross.. I am on their Facebook page. I like the extra motivation when I log on.

It is another low carb program but this one wants you to buy their products. Hmmmmmm,.

After a bit of research, my comment is that it might work but only because you create a calorie deficit. Not to mention that you have to buy products.

It's much easier and free to use this website.

A friend of mine did it and lost 60+ lbs in less than 6 months. However, she found it hard to maintain and is now 100lbs heavier than she was before she started it and struggling to lose it! I would recommend staying away from fads where you have to buy shakes and fake food, you always gain it back (usually more than you lost) after you stop.

I don't know anyone who has had long term success with this. First it costs a lot of money you have to buy their shakes, snacks etc. , second you are eliminating all foods but protein and vegetables, third you have to take supplements, fourth you are eating under 1,000 cal a day, and you are told not to exercise. You simply do not have the extra calories to burn. There is one person in my office on maintenance so I am interested to see what happens with his weight.

special meals and shakes? Forget it. In fact, forget any "diet program" which consists 90% of them pushing their products on you.

One of my patient's husband did Ideal Protein. He lost a ton of weight in a small amount of time. It's like 900 calories a day and very restrictive and you have to buy their snacks and whatnot. His weight loss was so fast, he looks old and haggard now. He has already gained back 20+ pounds. Watching him do all of that, he could've used MFP for free (I think he said IP was like $100/week) and used the food scale he purchased to weigh his meats on IP.
