oh my aching feet

i work 8- 10 hrs a day on my feet the whole time except on break or lunch then i leave work about 10 pm and go walk 5 miles before home and crashing i get up in the mornings and my feet not my legs just my feet hurt so bad it hurts to stand up and suggestions ????

  • Could you swim instead of the walk? When I was waitressing, swimming after my shift made my feet feel better. I didn't have the will power to make myself walk 5 miles :)

    I had that problen after I bought a new pair of shoes - Walmart sneakers with Dr. Scholl's gel inserts. After wearing them for a while I noticed the bottons of my feet hurt as if they had been beaten with a stick. I scanged shoes and the problem went away. Just to be sure I tried the Walmart's again and got the same results so I got rid of them. Maybe it's your shoes.

    Do you have a good pair of shoes? I know waitresses and nurses carefully pick good shoes, but your main other option would be a different form of exercise.

    I'd guess it's not only the shoes, but also the type of floor you are walking on at work - I worked at the Big Orange Box for a year, and the cement/concrete floor was KILLER on my feet! I know paying for new shoes all the time is expensive, but I'd get another month or two out of a pair of shoes by using those Dr. Scholls gel inserts. Massaging your feet before bed also helps. lol

    I had a couple co-workers say they liked those sketchers shape ups...but they also had jobs where they could sit down part of the time. I had to stand in one spot, not even walk around (walking around to me was better than standing!).

    I have the same problem when I wake up in the morning. I stand on my feet and they feel rigid and it hurts to walk. It takes a couple walks around the house before they loosen up and start to feel normal again. I think this is from my pregnancy, since I had my baby I feel like my feet have really gone downhill. Anyways, I haven't tried it yet but just heard the idea of taking ice baths for muscle recovery. I don't know if it will work, I wonder if anyone has tried it?

    I had the same problem after working out on my elliptical. Someone recommended a shoe store that actually films the way I walked, and finds shoes that correct any problems. They also recommended that I buy shoes at least 1 size bigger because feet swell when you are on them for extended periods of time.Try on lots of different kinds, and don't be afraid to walk alot in the store with a pair on. It hasn't totally fixed the problem, but it has helped.:flowerforyou:
