Help with blisters

I alternate days of running and walking. On the days I run I have no problems but on the days I walk I always get a blister on my left heel. I have Altra running shoes and runners socks. My shoes are about 4 months old and I never had any problems with my last Altras. Do I need a separate pair of shoes for just walking? Also, I tie my laces for heel slippage, I've even tried duct tape in the heel to lessen any friction. Any other suggestions? Again, it's only blistering on the days I walk.

It may be because your footfall is different when you run to when you walk. I have different trainers for walking in than running, because my running ones are so expensive I don't want to wear them out! It could be that when youre running the stuffing in the shoe has been pushed to mould to how your feet are when you run, but then when you walk its in the wrong place and is rubbing. I'd get a different pair for walking. If you walk for a long distance you might want to try some approach shoes.

@Misssynth 's recommendations are good - it's worth having a different pair for walking as you will use your foot differently.

As to blisters - I bought Engo blister patches as my feet rub where the insole lies inside the arch. They solved the problem immediately. I bought mine online, they stick to the actual shoe in the area where rubbing occurs and reduce friction. Best thing ever.

My running shoes aren't always the best for long walks. My nike frees are ok, and don't rub anywhere, but my Mizunos will slip on my heels. There's a reason running and walking shoes are made differently...

I only ever run in my running shoes. Sketchers for walking
