You really don't lose weight by exercising unless you do enough to put you in a calorie deficit. Focus on the deficit and how much you're eating, then exercise for your health and fitness. Sweat has no bearing on calories burned anyway.1

whatever calories you burn with a movement is fixed. it's not defined by how much you sweat. so for instance, my summer bike rides take exactly the same amount of energy as my winter ones. or to take another instance: when i'm out of shape i sweat like crazy even doing something easy. once i get in shape, i'll stop sweating when i do that, but the calorie cost will not change.
as far as i know, anyway.2 -
Ok ive lost 2 pound in 6 days due to sticking to my calorie limit so nothing wrong with the way my calories are going but surley you loose weight by working out because people who are on the large side only exsersize to loose weight realisticly im not excersizing to be healthy yes thats important too so great that i will be healthy but im exsersizing to loose weight so if you dont loose weight like your saying from exsersize whats the point in doing it lol0

Like the videos that you can workout to says fat burning workout you loose weight by exsersizing because you burn calories0

this is really not true. people 'on the large side' have all kinds of reasons and motivations for exercising.

Ok i just see tv shows where they workout alot an end up loosing loads of weight1 -
Weight loss comes from being in a sustained calorie deficit. There is an energy balance, Calories In/Calories Out. If your total calories in is less than your total calories out (and that includes the calories you burn just being alive, your daily activities, and any purposeful exercise) then you will lose weight. So the equation you are looking for is CI<CO.
Exercise can help increase the CO side of the equation which can in turn create a bigger calorie deficit, but it isn't required and it is easier to control the calories in (CI) side of the equation to ensure you are at a deficit rather than trying to exercise twice a day strenuously which could lead to injury or just getting burned out.
OP what are your stats: Height, weight, goal weight? Did you set up MFP with those numbers and choose a rate of loss to get a calorie target? Are you logging the food you eat, ideally using a food scale for accuracy?2 -
calorie deficit for weight loss. . exercise for health. i personly would have to work out for hours to earn enough calories back to lose weight without the deficit. the general info i see on here is weight loss is 80% diet and 20% physical activity. 100% diet if you prefer but not the other way around. not enough hours in the day.0

Exercise makes you a healthier person. I do cardio so I can have healthy lungs & heart. I do strength training so I can keep
(more) existing lean muscle while losing weight and have strong bones. Who wants to get to their goal weight and be out of breath, flabby, and weak?
If I exercised "just" for weight loss then I would just do cardio. That's where the bigger calorie burns are. But then I'm not as healthy as I could be.
If I exercised "just" for weight loss then I would quit when I got to goal........big mistake. I've lost weight & regained it. Pick exercise you enjoy, pick exercise that you can o for years to come.0 -

No, larger people have to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight just like thinner people. Exercise is for cardiovascular and even mental health for some. Have you ever heard the expression "you cannot out exercise a bad diet"? This basically means that if you don't watch your calories, exercise will not help you lose weight. At all. For example, if I were to eat 250 calories above my maintenance calories every day for a week, I'd have to do an hour of cardio every day to maintain my weight as I personally burn around 250 cals per hour. If I wanted to lose half a pound, I'd have to do another hour of exercise. Not worth it. This is why we create calorie deficits though diet. Some create their deficits through diet and exercise.
Exercise isn't pointless. It can help us achieve a desirable body composition. Many women actually lift heavy weights to improve their body composition. Many do cardio for cardiovascular health, and some do a combination of both.

I started out at almost 250 pounds and the only exercising I did for the first five months was walking twice a week. As I said, and others echoed, exercise for your health and fitness.1 -

yeah, i can see that. i don't watch tv, but i've heard enough about shows like that to see where the impression comes from. most of the people i come across irl are conscious of weight but if they're still there after a couple of months that really isn't where their minds are anymore.

Ok thanks all learn somthing new everyday lol0

the sweat would have a little bit of weight to it but not enough to even get noticed on the scale. it'd be like taking the moisture off the outside of a cup & still having the ice & drink left inside. in order to lose enough sweat to fully make a pound youd probably dehydrate yourself.0

How do you know?
Two lbs. of fat = 7,000 calories. So, that means in six days, you would have to have an average of 1,166 calorie defecit per day to loose two lbs.0
