My dad and I cook in the kitchen together often and now that I've lost 50 pounds and he's lost 35 we both pass each other with ease!

awkward moment. i started bike commuting seriously in august or september one year. following year i turn out with all the other parents for new baseball season, and my son's last-year coach went 'omg, [me] you look hot!' and then he went 'um, er, i mean, like . . . did you bring enough water? it's sure hot this summer whoa nelly um er . . . soooooo, how bout them blue jays this year?'.

i am really not the kind of temperament that welcomes personal commentary. i've got a forcefield that can fry you at 40 paces just for thinking about it, and so inappropriate from someone who's quasi-teachering with your kid. but in this case i let him off. i honestly don't think he had any idea his own mouth was going to come out with something like that. i think he was mortified.

My workmate saying "My goodness, you look like an athlete." Now he has known me at 250 and at the current 190 - ish. Honestly I DON"T look like an athlete, but I'll take the compliment, and I'm working on it.

My name is Fidan and for some reason all the Fidan's I know of were/are big.... anyway my mum and I were watching a programme and a Chubby Fidan came on. I sort of blurted out in frustration "why are Fidan's always fat?!?!" My mum's very sharp answer was "not my Fidan, not any more". It did make me smile.
