Properly done squats?

Hey, all,
Kind of embarrassing, but I hope I'm not alone in this boat... it's just that I have problems whenever I try to do squats!
I always exercise alone, so I never have anyone to help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Long story short: when I try to do squats and start going downward, my knees start KILLING me! They feel like they're being stretched with the whole weight of my body, and NOT in a way that feels healthy or good or productive!
What should my squat stance look like? How low down should I go? Does my back stay straight up and down, or lean forward? Basically, help!
Thanks in advance

Go to the MFP Blog page, enter "squat" in the search bar. There are several articles you might find useful, such as this one: http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/how-to-do-the-perfect-squat/

Bodyweight squats?
You should be trying to hit below parallel. Look forward. It's generally okay if your knees go past your toes. Some people are just like that. Your back should be straight, you shouldn't be bent forward.
Do you have video of your form?0 -
try using a TRX or other suspension trainer to help assist with the weight and your strength, until you get strong enough to do them without assistance
