To be perfectly honest, Zumba at home is a BORE! I have Zumba for Wii and yes, it is effective in getting your sweating, but it is SO much more fun when you take a class. Depending on where you go, the people are usually a lot of fun and will help you with the steps if you don't get them right away. Also, it's a lot easier to just give up at home. In a class, people will help keep you motivated.

My favorite part would be going in and having people tell me how great I looked from losing the weight.

I totally agree. Zumba at home is NOTHING compared to a live class. You burn a whole bunch more and have a amazing time doing so. I would really rethink the movies and go find a class!!!

Yeah I hear ya but I have two children and I already go swimming and running during the week...I couldn't take another evening out and I'm not prepared to swap my swimming or running for a Zumba class really... I have good will power, I don't give up easily so I don't mind doing it at home, I do all my other exercising at home so there's no problems there... Plus my boys motivate me and support me a lot, so there's my audience! Haha!

I also have two children and work 40 hours a week, take care of a house and do all that. The tapes arent bad, but if you want the full effects of Zumba, live classes are the way to go. I burn 600-700 calories a class, and I run, do weight training, Zumba Toning, and P90X. There is always time to fit stuff in, you just have to work it out.

I have the Wii version and I've used it a couple of times. It does have a couple of different levels. Give it a try.

The Wii Version is good, but I also much prefer the classes.

Try youtube before you splash any cash - plenty of Zumba there - to see if it is your type of thing.
  • I have the dvd's and the wii, I LOVE my dvd's there are several diff dvd's that come in the pack and you can work up, the wii is more intense and you have to work hard to go up levels and just as fun. good luck

Some people just don't know that not everyone can attend a live class. I live in the middle of nowhere so the closest live class is an hour and a half drive. I also have two kids and there are no baby sitters here so I'm not hauling them with me for an hour and a half drive once or twice a week for them too sit in the car(??) while I go to class! lol
I have wii Zumba and I LOVE it! I'm perfectly capable of motivating myself and just today danced for 71 minutes and burnt 722 calories! You don't need a class! I'm sure they're fun and I'm not bashing them I would LOVE to go to a class! Sadly it will probably never happen so I do lots of things at home :)

I have the Wii Zumba...I always get a great workout from it. My sister has two children, and she didn't have the extra money to spend on the Wii game (it's bout $45), so she just uses some videos on youtube. I haven't checked them out, but she loves them. The Wii game has a belt that goes around you, and it shows you how you're doing. The person changes color based on how well you are doing the moves. You get points for how well you do, and the more points you get, the more levels are opened up. You have options of 20 minute sessions or 45 minute ones. And there are different levels. I can see where people can get bored withit, but it always boosts my energy level, and I focus on my dancing, so I always enjoy myself even though I'm doing it at hom.e I hope this helped you!

If you don't want to spend the money though, check out youtube.

I prefer Zumba classes to the Wii or DVDs

Same as I prefer going to the gym rather than lift at home.

I'm a social creature wanting social contact and have the luxury of a good babysitter (the ex!!)

But I do understand that others prefer to work out at home or can't get out ot a class. That said, Zumba is a pretty social experience - all the clapping a whooping really adds to the experience - so I can totally understand where the people - like me - who prefer a class are coming from.

Which is why I suggest trying some youtube workouts before parting with any money. I rate my Wii Zumba - but hardly use it.

If you EVER get the opportunity to go to a live class, do it! I have a hard time staying motivated at home, by myself. Everyone has to do what they have to do to exercise. I'm glad you can do it the comfort of your own home. I get a few minutes into it and I'm ready to give up.

I have the Zumba game on the Xbox Kinect and I do it every night. There are plenty of different routines on it so that I never get bored doing it. Honestly, I could probably do the same routine all the time and never bore of it.
