Dried Beans

Has anyone else noticed a huge discrepency between dried beans measured by a measuring cup and by weight? I understand that measuring cups aren't great for solid food, but dried beans aren't something you can easily "pack" into a cup or heap up by accident, and environmental moisture shouldn't have a significant influence on their volume like with flour. For reference, the serving size on these beans is One Cup (100 grams). Here is 100 grams in a one cup measuring cup...

(Actually, can't figure out how to add a photo...suffice it to say, the amount of beans fits perfectly into a 1/2 cup measuring cup.)0

Here is a comparison of raw versus cooked beans from the USDA National Nutrient Database.
Note the average weight per cup of each type as tested in the USDA labs, 183g for raw, 177g for cooked; and the difference in Energy (Calories).

The USDA does not use the term "dried" for beans, they use "raw." As far as I know, there is minimal moisture loss from harvesting beans and then drying them.0 -
Thanks! I think this particular brand is just mislabeled.0
