Step Counting Calculations??

Hi, so I've been using mfp for a while now and always used either my iphone or apple watch to track my steps. I usually get about 150-250 cals added back to my total calories just for the amount of steps I walk in a day (around 12,000-14,000). I always have the negative calories enabled, and recently it started changing to a negative number like -12, even though I walk the same amount of steps. I am doing everything the same, and when i click on the question mark it says "mfp projected calories are higher than my expended calories". Can anyone tell me what this means/why it says that? Or how to fix it? P.s. on a day i don't walk as much, i have way too many negative calories at the top.

That is weird, do you ever add in your out work out using that tool? I ask because I have noticed that when I record anything that day through the manual way it stops recording/adding in my steps at the top. Not sure if it's the same thing that's happening to you, but just wanted to mention it in case it is!1

There have been several threads about this problem. "They" say it is because the earlier formula overestimated the calories burned, but -12 for 12000 steps (about 6 miles?) is ridiculous.
If you are double counting your steps, I can see that there might be a problem. i.e. you enter 2 miles running + 3 miles walking and the rest is miscellaneous steps. But if you aren't logging the steps as deliberate exercise elsewhere, then something is wrong.1
