Hi, I'm Betsy. I've been the "big girl" my entire life. I've always struggled with my weight, but it never really kept me from doing things, I was very active, always playing sports or hiking, until recently. About 5 years ago I lost nearly 60 lbs and was feeling really good about myself, however, I got complacent and stopped working out and being strict about my diet and it all went downhill from there. I gained all the weight back and then some...I'm now the heaviest I have ever been in my life. I'm 33 and I feel twice that. My body is literally falling apart, my knees are always hurting, I struggle walking up and down the stairs of my home, I'm always tired. I hate it, like I said, I've always been active and it pains me (literally) to do the things I once loved. I really need to get my act together...I've given myself two years to get in shape, that's plenty of time...an Alaskan cruise is my reward so I'm trying to use that as motivation, but I find myself really struggling in the evenings. I always want to binge to the point of misery. I try to keep myself busy, but I'm always thinking about the next thing to eat. I could really use some friends on here to help motivate me when I'm feeling down. I have about 150 lbs to lose and some days (most days) it just seems so unattainable.
I've also started a blog where I'm documenting my journey to a healthy lifestyle (as well as my random day-to-day thoughts/adventures). hidingfromtheshadows.wordpress.com/blog
I would really be grateful for any support.

You can do this Betsy. Log everything you eat and drink, keep an open diary and take one day at a time. Set yourself some smaller goals, say 10 or 20 lbs that way it won't seem so impossible. It's nice you are starting before Christmas and not leaving it until after, that shows determination. Good luck and ensure your friends are the mutual type and it's not one sided, everyone asking for friends needs the story of the other person and visa Versa good luck Carol1 -
Same, got around 150 pounds to lose..also giving myself a few years to shake the weight off but I'd like to average to around 10 pounds a month which I feel is doable..
I also struggle with moving and exercising cause well.. let's face it, I hate it!
One thing I try to do is walk more in the grocery stores, park a little further each time and just tell myself hey, it's not that far (unless it's cold.. I live in Canada).
Another thing if you're reading any of these replies I'd like to mention about the eating late part.. it might be hard at first but here's a few tricks that I've been doing that's been working for me..
1. Eat a decent sized supper but as soon you feel full, put it in the microwave! Don't touch it again until you have food on your mind, even if that means 30 minutes later, just give yourself LOTS of time to eat your supper.
2. Another thing that's helped me a lot is to eat later..if you usually eat supper around 5, or like I used too at 430 cause I was just craving food and to eat something, now I eat a little snack later in the afternoon. Around 330 I'll have a clementine which will hold me over until 630...
3. The "don't eat past 7 rule" or whatever it may be..don't worry about that now. Eat a half cup of grapes, or a clementine, or both! Eat a fruit and work for it! By that I mean this; eating grapes? Cut them in half one by one just because. Banana? Peel and cut. Apple? Peel and cut.. just whatever you eat for fruit just work for it. I feel that helps me a lot as I get to see how much I'm actually putting in my body and it also takes me longer to eat and allows me the time to get full.
Anyways.... those are just a few tips and tricks I like to use. Hope they work for you if you use them0
