Just wandering what YOU do to make a:
tastier
or
healthier
grilled cheese sandwich...THANKS FOR THE INPUT
LOW CALORIE/FAT (but high taste) is very nice IF POSSIBLE lol0 -
2 slices sarah lee 45 and delightful wheat bread
1.5 slices kraft fat free american singles
sliced tomatoes
light margarine spread (lightly butter the bread)0 -
Thank you!!! and such quick responsing ;p will try!!!0

I toast my whole wheat low cal bread first.....then I use either spray butter or a VERY small amount of butter in my pan and a small amount on my bread to prevent burning. I grate 1oz of whatever cheese you want and thats how I do it. If the cheese is not melted I pop it in the micro for a min......yummy. Its not exactly the most low calorie thing to try and re create....Bread (sometimes I do only 1 slice and make it a open face and add tomato! YUM) likely 400 cals......make it for lunch or dinner...
Hope that helped
GO GREEN!0 -
Haha "go green"
well thank ya lots!0 -
I make sure I have enough cals......and then I only use 1 slice of bread instead of 2. I still use all the cheese though!
This is my favorite sandwich.0 -
I usually cook mine in the toaster oven or the oven without the butter at all. I use one slice of homemade bread, cheese, tomato, sometimes tofurky deli slices and bake until melted. Mmmmmmm0
-
I add finely sliced onion to the grilled cheese while cooking, and tomato after cooking. It is the BEST grilled cheese sandwich ever!!!0
-
Try adding mustard. Tastes like a cheeseburger to me!! Yum

I used to put thin slices of pear in my grilled cheese. :ohwell:
Don't knock it until you try it! :flowerforyou:0 -
I'd go for two slices of kraft fat free singles, on weight watchers bread. Add in a tomato slice, and a bunch of garlic. Then use smart balance on the bread.0

That doesn't sound bad! I used to eat bananas wrapped with slices of american cheese. It's amazing how well fruit can go with cheese0 -
Of course not! I'm always up for experimenting ^_^ lol
sounds quite good actually, thanks!0 -
ONIONS!!! how could I forget those guys? Mmmm, thanks for the sweet reminder! never actually tried ON grilled cheese sandwiches, but I bet I'd love 'em!!!!!
merci beaucoup! =D0 -

Tofurkery stuff is the BEST...thanks for the idea!
Mmm, can just imagine it now  yum!0 -
you can use nonfat mayo on the outside of your sandwich instead of butter. its easier to spread on suuuuper thin. and it makes the bread PERFECT,0

Those Sarah Lee 45 cal bread slices are a god send! They're fluffy and tastey!!
I use two of those and fat free kraft slices and voila! Land O' Lakes makes a light butter that I use as well.
MMMMM.....seeing this title made me REALLY want one!!!0 -
I do Weight watchers or worderlight wheat w/ Hillshire fams ultra thin ham & 1slice of Kraft 1% cheese & cook it by using pam instead of butter.0

Along with the mozzarella, a little dab of pizza sauce. And, if you've got the calories to spend, pepperoni! It's the kid's favorite sandwich right now. I say right now, because last month their favorite was peanut butter banana sandwiches on toasted bread!
I always liked lightly sauteed onions on my sandwich. If you're good (oh, and I am, I am), you don't even need to butter your bread, you can just do it in the same pan from the onions, in the leftover butter spray.0 -

Awesome! i am going to copy this and email it to myself. thanks! :flowerforyou:0 -
One of my favorite grilled cheese sandwiches, is made with provolone. Instead of margarine or butter, I brush the bread with olive oil, mixed with Italian seasonings. I saute some bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and add those between two slices of provolone...cook at a very low heat, as the olive oil can burn easily....very tasty!!!!0
