When I put in my exercise time on whatever machine I used at the gym, it automatically puts a calorie amount in the other box. It's always different from the number on the machine at the gym. Who is right????

probably the one at the gym. neither are really accurate although the one at the gym usually asks for weight and age which makes it better than the one on the site

I ALWAYS CHANGE THE CALORIES BC THE COMPUTER DOESNT KNOW HOW FAST OR WHAT LEVEL YOU DO ON THE MACHINES ITS JUST GOING BY WEIGHT! SO ENTER WHAT THE MACHINE SAYS OR WHAT YOUR HRM SAYS IF YOU HAVE ONE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

The machine is probably more accurate especially if it tracks your heart rate. The site had me burning over 600 calories in 30 minutes on the recumbent bike but the HRM only had me at 250.

I could be wrong, but I think this site does take into account your weight & age

I wear a HRM with a chest strap and neither this site or the machines at the gym are correct for me. Everyone is different, age, weight, gender...all of that goes into what actually burn so what is on here and what is on the machine at the gym is just an educated guess. I always burn LESS than what the machines say at the gym. ALWAYS!

i don't have an hrm (poor college student) so i assume that the machine is overestimating and cut whatever number it gives me by 1/2

yeah, you have to enter your own calories. Use the machine, or use an online calculator, if you do't use an HRM.
  • Thanks for all the answers guys. :)
