I have never seen a full episode but last Christmas I watched part of one while sitting at the airport. That trip was the turning point for me to make a change and that showed played a part in it. I sat in that airport watching it weighing just under 400 pounds. I remember thinking at the time that I was EXACTLY halfway between a healthy weight and being big enough to be on there. Lose 200 pounds, healthy weight. Gain 200 pounds, hello, My 600 Pound Life. Then I got home, found the sore in my fat roll and the decision was made. I was NOT going to keep going that direction.

    Oh wow. That's great!

It's always interesting to see what makes one make a decision to change their direction in life.

Good on you! Best of luck!

I have watched it and it makes me realize how easy it is to get to 600 pounds. The transformations are amazing within a year or so most of them lose half their body weight.

I think i watch too many weight loss shows the latest is fit to fat to fit... It good fun when you see the trainer suffer getting back to fitness at least they can feel what one goes through when a work out session seems impossible to complete.

I've watched a couple episodes and I was surprised at the family/friends around them buying all the food when the folks couldn't walk.

I honestly don't know what I would do if my family member couldn't walk and I was in charge of getting them food. I would like to think I wouldn't bring them tons of food, but I'm not in that position so it may be easier said than done? idk

I think they do it because they fear to Say No yet they are clearly seeing that its killing them. Most of the enabler's are like parents, children and spouse's.
Crazy episode i watched where the husband liked it that his wife was big and depended on him. When she started losing the weight he was so mad and they eventually divorced. She was clearly in a toxic relationship. Why would you want someone you love to be bed ridden and fully dependent on you and subject to all the healthy issues that come with being obese.

Yes, it is very hard to say no to a loved one, but when their life is on the line, sometimes you have to. Many years ago alcoholism was ruining my life. My family enabled me for a while, but eventually they said enough. I remember what my brother said very very clearly: "I love you too much to stand by and watch you kill your self", and he meant it.

I've never seen it, but I have watched "Hoarders," and I would imagine that there are some similar psychological issues there. I love watching that show because I find it to be educational. I think a lot of us who lead a more "normal" life tend to have just a little bit of some of those psychological issues at times.... or, perhaps there have been times when we could have gone down that path.

I got irrationally angry when I watched Hoarders. So I stopped watching it. The psychologists who start working with these people have the patience of a saint. I'd be like, "Just throw all the effing crap out already, you moron!" When you start finding dead animals in the rubble I wanna throat punch someone.

Yeah, so I stopped watching. o:)

Hoarders was the last show on that channel I managed to watch. I had pretty much the same reaction you did.

IRT "My 600 Pound Life", I'd watch if it were being produced by a different network.

Yeah, I also kind of hate TLC, but the show fascinates me. That doctor is straight forward and tells things they way they are without sugar coating things.

I've seen stuff from him on a subreddit I hang around, and he's awesome.

I wish more doctors were like him. He isn't afraid to call people out on their nonsense.

Love that show. As odd as it sounds it is my motivation to keep going. I could be one of them if I don't hold myself accountable, exercise and eat right. I was 1/2 way there when I decided enough is enough. I hope they continue to do updates!

It makes me sad. I know how hard it is to lose weight at my size...I couldn't imagine being that obese and having that much to lose.

I think, also, it's easier to gain that much weight than one would think. Weight gain is a slippery slope.

I've gained about 50 - 60 pounds since 2009 with the last 30 or so pounds being put on in the last 3 years. I've lost some weight in the midst of all that, but always gain it back and more.

I started trying to turn things around in March, but couldn't stay committed for various reasons and when I started again in October I'd gained back all but three pounds of my eighteen pound loss.

I realize if I don't do something now I could easily end up like that. Just ten pounds here ten pounds there. For me it's a cautionary tale if nothing else.
