Diet soda and munchie help

I have tried counting calories several times , and usually do well for a while, i am attempting again, however i cannot kick my diet soda habit (2-4 liters every other day), and i am looking for munchies that wont kill my calorie count, any ideas or suggestions to cut the soda or snacks would be awesome , thank you !
Edit - I am currently 500 pounds, and use soda as my comfort food which is why it is so hard to give up, i am eating between 2000-2500 calories a day, my goal is set at 3000 but i try to keep it under

you could start by swapping diet soda for regular soda....other than that, just eat what you want to fill your calorie amount.0

Why don't you want to drink diet soda, pretty much no calories and tasty in my opinion. Unless it make you hungry, it doesn't for me, it is a way to enjoy soda without the calories. Cutting it out will make no difference to your weight loss.
As to munchies, you need to find out what fills you up. For some it is carb heavy stuff, for others protein, and others fat or some combination of them. The big thing is stick to your calorie goal, that is what will bring weight loss. Since you are 500 pounds you have a lot of wiggle room as far as your deficit goes, and since 500 pound subjects to do testing with to get hard numbers on calories burned are few, I would say 2500 or so is probably a good goal. I would not go as low as 2000 unless you are feeling really full. Look at 2500 as a goal to reach, not something to stay way below.0 -
I'm confused. You drink regular or diet Soda? You say you drink diet soda but then say it's preventing you from losing weight/contain calories....
Diet has no calories and has no impact on weight loss.4 -

Nope, diet soda has zero calories.
What matters for weight loss is being at the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals. Have you entered yours stats yet into MFP? At your current weight you can chose the 2lb a week loss option and it will give you the daily calorie target you should aim for (this will already include the calorie deficit you'll need to lose 2lbs a week).
Then focus on hitting that calorie number, accurately record your calorie intake in your food diary section (using a food scale is a great help with this), and then be patient0 -
I drink diet soda daily and have lost 120 lbs so far with no trouble. I'm kinda confused at what exactly you're asking help about. Diet soda doesn't prevent weight loss with its zero calorie content.1

I agree diet soda doesn't make you put on weight. Sipping something sweet most of the day long isn't a good habit though. I drink 1 or 2 diet sodas everyday. Something kind of like a snack (but zero calories).
Iced tea - unsweetened. I use flavored tea bags, they seem to make a more mild tea. If you use green tea make sure the water isn't too hot....very bitter. With iced tea you still get the caffeine. Cutting caffeinated soda cold turkey would give you a headache.''
Mio or another water "enhancer." Yes, this is the same artificial sweetener. But it's likely a much smaller quantity. Adding mint leaves, ginger slices, cucumber slices may help flavor plain water.
Munchies - air popped or light microwave popcorn. I use a microwave popping bowl so I can add a little bit of oil. This makes moister popcorn - so the salt sticks (air popped corn not so much). Lots of popcorn flavors....Kernels Seasoning has ranch & nacho cheese that are yummy.0 -

Do some reading here and you will quickly learn that this is (in my opinion) a great place for dispelling some of the diet myths that are "common knowledge". Diet soda is one of those myths. It's fine to drink it from a calorie perspective and there is no inherent danger in aspartame, as you often hear about. Personally, I don't like the taste and generally only have it as a mix, but that is me, so if you enjoy it, no reason to cut it out.
Enter your stats in MFP and aim for the 2 lb loss. I started at 330 and aimed for a 2 lb loss, but averaged about 3.5 lbs per week over the first 3 months. Down 50 in about 14 weeks and already I feel better. It's because I started walking on a treadmill (1/2 hour in the morning and 45 mins when my hockey team was playing) and did not eat back those calories. So try not to stress if you do end up losing more than the 2 pounds/week if you exercise. At the same time, don't cut your calories too drastically from what MFP gives you.
As for snacks, probably time to find something healthy you enjoy. For me it's baby carrots and snap peas. And I'm finding I really like bananas again. But you do not need to drastically change what you are eating, just how much. I can't give up potato chips, so I have a box of the individual sized bags and I have one when I want one. Before, I would eat a family sized bag in a couple of sittings, so having a 28g bag every second or third night is far better for my weight loss and fills the craving.
And I agree on the food scale. Best money I've spent as far as weight loss goes. And I've gone through two watches, a chest strap, weights etc. Measuring cups don't cut it for portion control.
Remember, it took a long time to get to your current weight, it's going to be a long road to lose it. Don't try to rush it but keep at it.3 -

Good luck OP, slow and steady wins the race, its all about the calories in/calories out. Just keep a good log and weigh your food and you'll be on the right track.
Now if only they could make calorie free alcohol life would be so much better!3 -

No. They have been studied over and over again and have been proven safe over and over again. The fear mongering innregards to artificial sweeteners needs to stop.1 -

Best recommendation I can give is make sure you're happy with your food choices. Giving up things you enjoy can lead to frustration and caving, such as giving up soda for you. Ice cream for me.

That is clearly just nonsense.
OP, diet soda has (almost) nil calories and you will see many long term posters who have successfully lost weight whilst drinking it (me included) and a couple of scientist/pharmacist qualified posters who scientifically dispel the myths.
However, all things in moderation and 2-4 L every day or so does seem very large amount.
I would aim to reduce that to a more moderate amount myself..
I understand your post to be saying diet soda makes you hungrier ('gives you the munchies') and you want low calorie snacks so this snack with soda munching does not throw out your calorie budget?

If so, reducing your diet soda intake seems good idea for you so you can control your snacking. Do it gradually as caffeine in them is the part that can have an addictive quality.
In the mean time- snacking is ok as long as the snacks dont get you over your calorie limit - Look at filling low calorie snacks - popcorn like PP suggested or vegetable pieces or fruit in moderate quantities or crackers with diabetic jam - whatever it is, just make sure to log it accurately - and play around with meal/snack timing and see how is best way for you to spread out your allowance.5 -

Also, it's less likely to replace soda but I love Hint flavored water and it's 0 calories. No artificial sugar taste. It's water with a hint (pun intended) of fruit flavor. I found the flavor tastes a lot like the real thing and they're yummy.0 -

I didn't start drinking diet soda until I started my weight loss phase (before that I was overweight and a pre-diabetic). Fast forward a few years and I drink diet soda every day, have a bmi of 21, am in excellent health and am no longer labeled a pre-diabetic/have glucose numbers in the normal range.
Can't post this thread enough, people really need to take the time to read through it-great info from some really smart people : )
