Hi My name is Jean, I started with MFP a week ago today and have been tracking my calories and have lost 8lbs already but I need to add some exercise in to my daily routine, I have been reading some of the entries and would like to get some advice on a good work out that will help me drop some good weight and inches with out giving me that extra flabby skin look. one thing I would like to know is what is the P90x work out and the 30ds, also I have not really done any intense workouts for several years, would these be to much for me?
Thanks for all your help.

If you haven't done an intense workout in years, you're going 0-100 in P90X. I recommend starting smaller. Just Google P90X and see what you come up with. It's definitely not for wimps.0

P90X is a very intense program. There are people who go straight for it when they start working out. They modify like crazy and aren't able to do everything in the workout. They just build up the strength and eventually are able to do it. If you want something a little less intense in the same series of workouts, you can start off Power 90 (the precursor to P90X) and then move onto P90X. Beachbody, the company that makes P90X, have a bunch of different programs for various levels of fitness.
I've never done 30DS so I really can't comment on that.
I would just find something that looks interesting to you and that you'll want to do consistently.0 -
Great job on your weight loss so far! I would recommend the 30 Day Shred. The video is only 25 minutes, you do it every day, and it has 3 difficulty levels so you can work your way up. It really helps to tone.0

30DS is Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It's comprised of three levels that get progressively harder. Each level contains a warm up, 3 cirucuits, and a cool down. Each circuit consists of 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs. Each workout is about 25 minutes long, including the warm up and cool down. You start with level one and continue for 10 days or until you are ready to move on to level 2; repeat with levels 2 and 3. In theory, the DVD is meant to be completed in 30 days. However, this does not work for everyone and rest days can be incorporated. It's an excellent workout. I completed levels 1 and 2 with 3 lb weight, working out M-F and taking Sat. and Sun off. Then, I began doing level 1 with 5 lb weights to supplement my other workouts. Now, I'm refocusing on 30DS and plan to do the entire DVD using 5 lb weights. It's a great workout, challenging but doable. I love it and would recommend it.0

You can find it at Walmart or other stores. You can also order it on Amazon.com. It's about $10.0 -
The 30 Day shred is an intense workout but many of the moves can be modified for beginners. I found my copy online - Amazon Marketplace - for around $6. Also check the library, Half Price Books, Walmart, etc. If you have Netflix, it may be available on streaming (but I don't know for sure. I know other workouts are available this way.)0

If you don't want flabby skin, you need to lose weight very slowly. Probably not more than a few lbs a week. Otherwise your skin won't have time to adjust to your new body so that your tummy may look like cake batter overflowing out of a pan. Start an exercise regime that is low-impact at first--like walking, swimming, or biking. As your endurance and stamina builds you can start adding more intensity--just make sure you never go to the point of actual pain--discomfort is a given, but listen to your body.0

I am not "big" but completely out of shape. P90X would probably kill me if I jumped straight to that...0
