My grandma went to a cherry farm and picked a ton of delicious cherries. I have been eating them and wondering if they may be bad for me or my nutrition?

Thoughts on cherries and how to eat the right amount? Are they a good snack, why?

Anything natural is a great snack. Cherries are excellent, as they are also full of saliclates (sp?) which is the same as the active ingredient in asprin. So eat them, go workout hard, and feel no pain...well maybe not NO pain, but less...;)

Cherries are a fruit, just like anything else with fructose. Eating a bowlful is a good snack, but eating handfuls all day is bad.

Many people confuse raw cherries with canned maraschino cherries, which are loaded with sugars and preservatives. Don't think that they're bad just because their sugary counterpart is unhealthy in large quantaties.

((***Disclaimer: Everything is bad in large amounts.))

Cherries are actually one of the best fruits to eat (among other BERRIES) because they are very low GI. They are my snack of choice, along with bluberries :) Eat up. Just watch your calories!

They are very good for you but just make sure you make room for them in your calorie count for the day.

They're a natural diuretic.... So, be careful about eating too too many of them!

They're great in my opinion. I had some this morning when I was going to binge and they took my cravings right away. 225g (around 30 cherries) and it was only 142 calories, which is great considering what I could have eaten. They're also a bit trickier to eat than your average fruit so take more time.

I don't believe that eating lots and lots of fruit is EVER bad, except maybe for your teeth, so I'd say to go ahead and eat as many as you like. Better from fruit than from whatever else snacky rubbish.

They are high in sugar like most other fruits but they have quite a few other benefits (as some people have already posted in this thread) that somewhat offsets the high sugar content (in my opinion at least).

As has also been said, eat them in moderation. I just got a pound from the store and I usually try to eat 1 cup a day or so.

I eat them all the time. :D Each one has 4 calories! (lots of carbs if you are watching them) All in all, I think they are a great snack!
