So I have 4 kids and I gained a lot of weight my youngest is 7. For the past 4 years I have lost and kept on 70 pounds. But this past year 20 pounds crept back up on me and I can't seem to shake it off. I do carb cycling when I feel like I need to lose weight but I feel like it doesn't really work anymore. So then I try no carbs and that doesn't work either.

I eat 40% or so carbs. lost plenty of weight. it has nothing to do with carbs. it's all about being a slight caloric deficit. that's really it. I know this the most widely given answer here but it's that simple

Calories out > Calories in results in weight loss. It really is that simple.

I do low carb for two reasons 1. I like the food and 2. I find high fat and high protein foods much more filling than sugars and starches. I can lose, maintain, or gain eating low carb, depending on my calorie intake.

The moral of the story - do low carb or carb cycling if you like it and it makes adherence easier for you, but at the end of the day, if you want to lose weight, you will need to be in a calorie deficit, regardless of what your macros look like.

Do you count calories at all? Weight loss is all about calories, not carbs (I eat up to 50% and even 60% of my daily calories in carbs sometimes).

I'm guessing the reason carb cycling worked in the past is that you ended up eating less calories than you burned. For some reason this isn't happening this time. Maybe you are eating too much protein, too high of fat, sneaking in more carbs than you think, something to push the total calories over the limit.

So yeah, count calories, eat less than you burn.

It doesn't work because you're eating too much. Cut calories - that's all you need to do to lose weight.

Thank you I started logging faithfully my foods and that helps me seeing how many calories I have left. Thanks that helps a lot.
