Right time to weigh yourself....

Is there actually a right time to weigh yourself? I ask this because right out of bed, I weighed myself and the scale said 250 lbs and I put in a really good workout and the scale says 247 lbs. Do I go by the morning weight or do I go with the post-workout weight. I ask because I've always heard you should weigh yourself right after you get up, but I know the Biggest Loser has their weigh-ins after the "Last Chance Workout" which is obviously a ploy to get rid of as much water weight as possible before the weigh-in by making them sweat it all out. If I go by my morning weight, I have lost 3 lbs so far this week. If I go by the post workout measurement, I have lost almost 7lbs.

    Depends which you'll be consistent with. I always do it in the morning after I've gone to the bathroom but before I've eaten, on the same day each week.

    I always go by my first thing in the morning weight.

    I have heard people say 6:30am is the best time to weigh yourself, but I think so long as you are consistently using the same time to weigh yourself each time, then you're fine at whatever time you weigh. It's all a personal choice.

    Same here. Right when I get up. You're weight will fluctuate during the day anyway, and at my gym they've tested a few times and said overall people weighed more after a workout because of all the water they drank. I find that if my weight after a workout is lower than my morning weigh, the next morning I'm somewhere in between the two.

    In the long term, it doesn't really matter. Things will average out. However from a psychological point of view you have a choice... feel good about yourself now having lost 7 lbs, and feel a bit sad next week when you don't lose so much on a morning weigh-in, or alternatively log a 3 lb loss today and go with a morning weigh-in next time and lose another similar figure (hopefully).

    Best to keep things consistent so you don't get demotivated by gains or maintaining weight. I'd personally go for your morning weight before eating anything and with minimal clothing. That controls as many variables as possible so you see a less foggy picture long-term.

    Remember that in the long run, the number on the scale... whether you log the 247 lb or 250 lb value... it doesn't really matter. You have a certain body fat percentage and that is much less erratic. In 3 months' time you won't really care whether you logged 247 or 250 lbs today. Don't sweat the small stuff :)

    they say first thing in the morning, who is they, not sure. but i believe as long as you weight yourself at the same time everytime you weigh in is what counts. i used to go to l.a weightloss and i would get weighed on my lunch break, so i am not sure. i believe it is the consistency that counts!

    It definitely gives me a confidence boost to see he 247 but I have been weighing myself after I wake up and use the bathroom. I guess I should stick with that. Lately, I have been getting up around the same time so that should not be a problem. I just hope the scale doesn't go the other way on Sunday (my wife and my weigh-in day).

    I weigh in at the same time every day (and I do weigh myself every day, although I don't necessarily log my weight daily). It doesn't matter if I chose right after getting up, after working out, before or after eating, or before bed. Consistency is what counts--pick a time and stick with it. All the best to you!

    Well, I guess Im one that bucks the trend, i weigh my self POST exercise, post potty post shower after my thursday workout, knowing full well that water loss is going to be apparent. I do this EVERY thursday night, and as important, use the SAME scales in the SAME place, and give myself 5 readings to make sure the scales are being 'mechanically' accurate, even though they are digital. I have had the same scales say I put on 8 lbs, then re-weighed two more times to get a consistent reading that showed a 2lb DROP.

    There is a right time to weight yourself! First thing in the morning AFTER you use the bathroom! I know that sounds weird but I went to 4 doctors and they have all told me this. The reason why is because while you're sleeping, your body retains water so therefore you must release that excess before you weight yourself.

    I think as long as your consistent with the time of day you weigh it doesn't matter. :)

    I have always been told am and within the first 30 minutes of waking up.
    Dr OZ had a specialist on the other day, I was watching it at the gym because my batteries died to my MP3 Player....the experts all seem to say that 630am is the best time to weight yourself. After your first bathroom of the morning! :-)
