How do you guys cope with having a partner that can eat anything?!

My fiancé has just moved closer because we are getting married in 4 weeks, he is very supportive of my goals and even joined my gym to be my gym buddy! It's just so hard to eat right because even though he doesn't eat much take away, he will have sweet and sour pork from the food court and I'm just there eating my sushi like YAY! It's so hard!! I've already gained a tiny bit since he's been here and I'm really stressing and needing help to get back on track. So please, help!

Is he bigger and taller than you? Then he can eat more calories than you. That's life. My husband is bigger than me but I know what calories I need to maintain.1

My bf doesn't gain weight no matter what he shovels into his mouth. I'm lucky he likes what I cook so anything he has that's unhealthy he has at work. He tries not to eat debbie cakes in front of me. He has his own cupboard and everything and I don't ever have to open it and look at what he has. Part of it is just accepting he gets to have more. I made that mistake in the past thinking I should have just as much. My body is smaller and just doesn't need man sized portions! I'll admit it's annoying but that's just life.3

Realize that people who are taller, weigh more, different gender, different age, different activity level have different calorie needs.
You need to eat less than him. He needs to eat less than another person. If you have kids they will have different needs than you. Don't pity yourself.
Eat foods you like. Fit it in your goals.
Eat smaller portions of higher calorie foods. Pair it with more low calorie vegetables.
Chinese food- same main dish, you could skip the rice and get vegetables
Burger- try a regular burger and a side salad with a vinaigrette dressing
Pizza- get thin crust and have a salad with a couple of pieces
Mexican- try a taco salad, watch the amount of cheese, sour cream, guacamole
Get grilled or baked meats instead of breaded or fried.
Drink water, unsweetend tea, black coffee, diet soda pop and save more calories for food.
Plan ahead. Look up nutritional info for restaurants and know what fits your goals.
You can also increase your activity level so you can eat a bit more.3 -
my husband can EAT A LOT and doesnt gain weight but thats fine because the house rules remain the same we keep small amounts of sweets in the house. I dont keep soda or chips in the house unless its food taste good brand. We also eat out prob twice a month so my husband eating 3 servings of a healthy home cooked meal doesn't bother me because hes not eating different stuff than I am.1

My husband works a physically active job.
I work in an office sitting at my desk.
Of course he's going to be able to eat more than I do. What it does is to motivate me to try to be as active as possible too. I walk as part of my commute and at lunch, and I hike up and down stairs - 20-40 flights a day. I'm still going to eat less than he does, but at least I can eat a comfortable amount.1 -
It's life. In just about every household, there's gonna be someone who can eat more than the other. The other just has to focus on themselves and be aware of how much they eat and not worry about everyone else.

To be honest, I look at the amount of food on my SO's plate and wonder how he could possibly eat that much.
I am 5'1 and maintain between 100-105lbs.
He is 6'4 and maintains between 197-210lbs.
I work in fine art; he works construction.
During the day when we are doing our individual work we eat separately.
In the evening we eat the same just portion appropriate.
If we are eating out we go for personal choice. If mine is a portion beyond my appetite, one of us will have it for lunch the next day.
I drink wine; he drinks beer.
Don't wish for another's food, that is the amount it takes to maintain their calorie equilibrium, not yours- you would not want to be your SO's weight, height, or activity level.

Personally i dont care for food- any of it. I dont care what other people eat. For me its a size 0 dress or pizza. The dress wins every time. Just think what you are getting, not what you are missing.

I can relate. My husband is 6'3" and weighs about 175-178. I am 5'2" and currently weigh 192 and I am trying to lose 50-60 pounds. He eats a lot of junk. He has quite the sweet tooth. It kind of frustrates me that he doesn't have to watch anything he eats and he always stay so little, but then we are just different. I am shorter, I am a female, and before I started exercising I know he was more active than me with his job. We used to eat the same foods, but I realize now how it wasn't a good idea for me. Now that I have been healthier, I don't really crave the foods that he eats. He has snacks every night, and I just don't care. I eat my protein bar and I'm happy. He eats a whole row of Oreos and he's happy. Whatever works! Just get to the point where you are focused on you.0

I totally understand, my fiancé and I love fast food but I'm trying so hard to not eat it, I have zero willpower and the second he asks if I want it I say yes, but if he never asked I would never eat it!!0

I totally understand. My boyfriend is a professional hockey player and eats all day long. We've lived together for 3 years and that's how the weight (about 20 lbs) has crept on. I always wanted to eat when he ate, but I am not a professional athlete burning it all off! I have to remind myself that we are different people with different levels of exercise and different dietary needs. But man, it's hard because I love food!0

It might not always be that way- when I met my husband in his mid 20s he was rail thin- no stomach at all, almost bony looking. He worked at a restaurant, ate BBQ meaty heavy food from there every day for lunch and his dinner was usually potato chips & beer. At 6 feet tall he was 160 pounds and whenever we would eat out he would get the biggest fattiest meals. I thought he was one of those people that could just eat anything and stay thin.
Then he got older (early 30s now), got a desk job, and now he gained about 50 pounds and weighs 210 and has a big beer belly & double chin. He had to get all new clothes because none of his old stuff fits. It's actually really hard for him to lose weight because he's so used to big portions and being able to eat heavy foods and drink huge amounts of beer... but with his much less active lifestyle and getting a slower metabolism with age he just can't eat like he used to.
You might find things change- those mysteriously thin people that can "eat anything yet stay slim" sometimes turn out to gain weight quickly as soon as their daily activity level slows down.0 -
Accept that life isn't fair.
Accept that only you can put food in your mouth and only you can choose in what amounts.
Love your finance and enjoy being in each other company.
For my part I have accepted that I will be a little fatter than my ideal version of myself generally because I would prefer to spend more time these days with my friends and family socialising, eating and drinking. I have accepted that there is a price to pay and I am content to pay it.0 -
Why are you eating Sushi if you want Pork? Just eat the pork if you like it, and don't worry about one meal.0
