When should you weight go back to normal after your period? I was bloated and retaing water before my period bc I was sick and than a week before I always get bloated so I udeerstand that bloat. Now it's a day after my period and I'm still bloated. 7 pounds more than usual. I recently stared doing cardio everyday day to every other day and I feel like that has made it worse to be honest. I'm not sure what's going on. For the past 3 weeks I've been retaing water.

With the recent new exercise, water retention is to be expected, and can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
As far as period water retention, mine personally takes about 4-7 days to go down, so I really don't bother even weighing during that time because I know my weight will be up.1 -

Thank you. I just hope it goes away it's kinda annoying and I feel like I get getting bigger everyday0 -
You're staying within calories right? So it's really just water?
Try staying away from salty foods right now- no restaurant or take out food, no rotisserie chicken, deli meat, pickles, soy sauce, canned soup, etc.
Drink lots of water (might seem strange but drinking water flushes out retained water and reduces bloat).
Drink lemon water, unsweetened tea, unsweetened cranberry juice, etc. all are natural diuretics.2 -
Takes a week or so to flush out but I sometimes retain up to 2 or 3 weeks
How many minutes of cardio do you do at a time?0 -

I lose my period everytime I eat at a deficit and am trying to lose weight..
Isnt that normal? I thought everyone lost their period when losing weight *__*

Ok just wanted to make sure you weren't doing excessive exercise which can cause water retention. 30 mins is fine.0

I've lost 50 pounds within the last year and I haven't lost my period. I usually weigh 103 but now I weigh 110 bc I was sick started working out and than go my period a week later and it just ended yesterday and I'm still bloated. It's been 3 weeks of retaining water.0 -

No! That may happen to some people, but when I hear about it it's usually someone with too low body fat or too low calorie limits. People with eating disorders also often lose their periods.
Check your weight loss rate, you may be going too fast or aiming for too low a weight/body fat percentage.

It does happen, but is definitely not normal, nor does it happen to everyone. It's not that common actually. Have you consulted your doctor?1 -
It can be different for us all. Also your diet could be partially to blame. Going heavy on the carbs and sodium will bloat some people. Check your intake of each of those and see. Also drink enough water. This helps a lot for me and maybe it will help for you.0

If your deficit is too great then you can lose your period. How much of a deficit are you talking about? How many calories are you consuming when this happens?0 -
My deficit is 1500-2000 calories a week.
So 1 pound to 1.5 pounds a week.
I dont think its that high acually.
I just assumed it was normal.0 -

That depends on how many calories you are eating. If that deficit has you eating a meager amount it is likely the cause of your period disappearing. How many calories do you have on average per day?0 -
Im 5'1
And i eat 1200-1400
And I run everyday & Im a cashier.
To be honest Im not very active.0 -

3500 calories = a pound
By eating 1500-2000 calories below maintenance a week you're losing about half a pound a week.

No, it isn't normal. Prolonged absence of periods can cause health issues. Go to a doctor. But I also want to point out, hijacking a thread isn't cool. I suggest making a new thread if it's an issue, but I can guarantee most will say to go get checked out.

Are you making sure to drink enough water? Your body will hold onto water if it feels like it's not getting enough. Also coffee and salty foods are said to make period bloating worse. I get super bloated during my period, I try to increase my water intake and eat VERY clean. Basically if I eat fruits and veggies and plain chicken or eggs (and def no dairy) I can avoid a week long bloat.0

In all fairness I don't believe she did that intentionally. She simply mentioned her period stopping when goes into a deficit and I did ask her about it after I posted my contribution to the OP, so it's really my fault. It wasn't my intention to keep that conversation going either so I just let my last comment to her be my final one.1 -

I'm aware that it wasn't intentional. Most cases it isn't. But at this point, it was bordering into hijacking which wasn't fair to OP is all because it didn't fit into the original question. I just wanted to point it out before the possibility of mods intervening over it.

Well no one else was keeping up the conversation but you.... LOL.... just saying. Your intentions may have been good but the conversation had already come to an end a few hours ago, so we can move on now.0 -

Simply pointing out to a user that may not know, or in this case you seeing that you continue on with it, when the possibility of warnings can occur. Or at the very least, unaware that it is rude. So with that, I bid you goodnight, or good day, where ever you are.

I believe my intent was lost in text. I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just pointing it out. It's going to be okay. I hope everyone here found something to help their situation.0 -
Now you've both hijacked the thread by arguing about hijacking the thread4

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. I swear I'm a mature adult.. sometimes. I'm seriously done now. Best of luck to OP.

No it's the end of it. About 2 weeks ago I was sick so I was retaing water. Last week I was bloated bc of pms and my period a week later and it ended yesterday I've been retaing water for about 3 weeks. Randomly doing cardio for 30 a day probably has something to do with it but idk I'm just paranoid and feel so big and I feel like everyone notices that I 7 pounds bigger0 -

Have you been having normal bowel movements?
I get very bloated and I also have a GI issue, so I understand..it sucks. I've been asked if I am pregnant.0 -
Eliminate one food category at a time. See which one makes the biggest impact. Start with the ones that you have the most suspicion...or maybe some family history can help, too. For example, eliminate one at a time things like wheat, high sugar foods, dairy, cruciferous, pulses, foods containing vegetable oil (corn, soya, cottonseed), nightshade vegetables, etc. I did this, and I was able to zero in on what was disturbing my digestion. Good luck. Hope you will be ok soon.0
