Tomorrow is my last weigh in of the year for my TOPS group. A year ago, I JUST KNEW I would be at goal right now. THIS was the year I was going to do it. But I actually gained 5 pounds this year and sit 103 pounds from goal. Just frustrated.

heck 5 lbs for this year is not a big deal. you lost all that additional weight. thats something to be proud of. weight loss also doesnt always go the way you want it to either. but such is life. just keep losing the weight and you will get there. its not a sprint its a marathon. you get to the end when you get there,as long as you get there thats all that counts

This time of the year is difficult for everyone. Personally, I'm just happy to have everyone make it through more or less unscathed. Think about your goals, and rather than having one big goal, break it down into little ones, and think of rewards for yourself to celebrate those successes, rather than focusing strictly on the end game. Focus on one pound at a time, and then the next.

I have a suggestion: don't have a timeline to reach goal.

    I agree.

The way I approached it was this ...

I started with MFP in February (to avoid the January cliché, but I did start exercising more and eating a bit less starting 2 months earlier in December).

And then I decided to stick with it for 16 weeks. Stick with it absolutely without fail for 16 weeks.

Because my goal was only a mere 16 weeks, sticking to it wasn't too bad. My courses at uni go 14 weeks, plus a couple weeks for exams and if I can stick to them for that length of time, I can stick to a diet for that length of time.

I figured that at the end of 16 weeks I should have lost something, and something would be better than nothing.

    I lost 15 kg. :)

  • Thank you all. I think I do need to take a timeline off of my ultimate goal and just work on consistency.

This was the year I thought I was going to reach "goal" too. :D I should buy me and you a drink.

Where I'm at currently : trying to lose the last 2 lbs until I'm back at the weight I was at in May. Still about 50 lbs until I'm at the very high end of the healthy BMI range for my height.

But here's the thing - so obviously we didn't reach goal right? But we're making progress. Yeah it might not be linear progress, it might not even be forward progress, but we haven't given up.

So there's always tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and the day after that. Can't change the past, but surely we have control over the future.

I'm not sure when I'll reach goal now or if that's even a thing. I just want to hold myself accountable from here on out and I'm sure sooner or later I'll reach that "goal" weight and you will too.

hey dont feel bad I thought by now I should have lost all my weight(been at mfp 2 years ,been trying for 4+. only had 69lbs to lose lost about 45 and still have close to 25 to lose(Im only like 11 or 12lbs from the high end of the healthy bmi weight) and its been really slow for me.the last 20+ lbs just dont want to budge but Im losing fat. I havent given up yet,I know that if I do I will end up where I started and I dont want to be back at the beginning. so yeah just keep going. I know I am and I will get where I want to be. it may be when Im a senior citizen lol but thats ok.

Reassess. Look where you might have digressed or fallen off and analyze your behaviors at that time. Then this upcoming year, remind yourself that if you fall those ways again, you're just setting yourself up for failure. It's not an easy road, but the results bring much joy.

My success is that I've tracked my food in MFP for 354 straight days! Am I the weight I thought I'd be when I started all that tracking? Nope! But I was ruthlessly honest, even when I binged 4000+ calories. I'm proud of that. Weight loss depends on a huge number of variables. But find one thing you can commit to for next year that's totally under YOUR control. Good luck!
