why do I eat when I am not hungry?? It has to be a mental thing! It's real and it's a strong urge. I need therapy or a good informative book! Help!

Hey eating when you are bored is a copeing mechanism, try finding something to do instead like go for a walk, talk to a friend, do jumping jacks, anything but avoid that food!

I'm trying to find the answer to that question too... Even if I'm not at all hungry... just bored, food will work. I've been much better since find MFP, but I know that the possibility is still there. I'm in therapy but the answer isn't there! :)

It took me paying money and starting a weightloss program at the local hospital to figure it out. Well, I didn't really completely figure it out, but now I realize that I am not really hungry and am paying good money so I want to get the most out of it. So I don't eat. But it's amazing the feeling you feel when you realize that you aren't really hungry. I would have never thought a little thing of yogurt and granola could fill me up for 4-5 hours, but it does. The way I ate before it would be a bacon egg and cheese on a wheat bagle (cause wheat is healthy of course), a chocolate donut, and a large iced coffee. And then I would be hungry and hour or two later.

funny you posted this. right when i was getting ready to polish off the rest of my plate of dinner i stopped and asked myself "why are you eating this? your not even hungry anymore" so i proceeded to trash the rest of my plate.

Look at www.tcme.org. It's the Center for Mindful Eating. They have some really great insight!

I find I snack when i am bored. I found it was really bad just after I gave up smoking. I needed something to do with my hands so i ate.
Now I have a water bottle with me all the time and when I feel I need to do something with my hands I have a drink. I even find just fiddling with my water bottle helps too.

Great mind set. This is where I need to be (again)
