How do I plan my workouts during Christmas when it's busy.

  • I belong to a gym near me and I've already put together a list of exercise classes to hit for the end of this week and into next week when I'm on vacation. Look at your schedule. Block out the time. Write it on the calendar. Consider it an appointment with yourself.

How do you plan the rest of your day?

If you're just rolling through your days hoping you find the time and motivation to workout, you're probably not going to be successful. (This applies for other things too- chores, seeing friends, etc). Look at your days and what is scheduled and what needs to be accomplished. Then find some free time to workout and what that workout will be. That way if something comes up you can say "oh, I have something I need to do but I'll be free about an hour later. Let's go for then." I also like to try and fit my workouts in earlier in the day, that way if something unavoidable does come up I can just go later.

The same way you do the rest of the year. Look at your calendar, see what other commitments you have, and block off your training time.

Christmas Eve - at least some walking, maybe a short bicycle ride
Christmas Day - hopefully a long bicycle ride
Boxing Day - at least some walking, maybe a short bicycle ride
The Day in Lieu of Christmas Day - at least some walking, maybe a short bicycle ride

And yes, I have something of a plan for all that. :)

I schedule everything in my calendar on my phone. Gym time is a priority so it goes on my calendar and a reminder pops up when it is time to go.

Most events/people won't require you before 7AM. Workout early.

I'll be out of town so missing my weight lifting sessions. I can run anywhere though. It will be my only opportunities to escape family time. I'm already checking weather reports to pack my running gear. If anyone believes spending even more time with them is more important than my hour of me time, tough!
