I just started my diet and exercise in the beginning of January and I am down 9lbs. I jumped on the scale this morning and I am up 1.8 pounds...ahhh! I know it is because of my period coming but does anybody know how many pounds we typically gain during this time and does it come off when it is over??
Help,
Nikki

  • I usually gain 3-4. I hate it!!!
  • ahhh I know what you mean! This last week I was up 5 pounds due to ridin the crimson wave. Lucky for me I had a couple days before weigh in and still managed to get rid of the 5 (putting me back to normal) and still losing 2. I had just resolved in my head that this week's weigh-in would suck and next week's would be better. Pleasant surprise:smile: . I wouldn't take it to heart by any means. My theory it to have a do-over or a mulligan. Just pretend like this week doesn't count. But maybe that's just me:laugh:
  • So is it because we're all on this site?? Because you know women who live together menstruate together.........There have been about 4 questions I saw on this recently and if I hadn't seen them, I would have posted it myself!

It is VERY frustrating to see that happen. I went up 2 pounds but I've heard of people going up as much as 5 pounds. Just forget you saw the scale and keep on keeping on : )
  • Usually 3-5. Before MFP PMS meant spending the whole week pigging out and feeling bloated. Now I double up on workouts during that week and feel fantastic. Make it a challenge to see how big of a drop you can get during the week.

I make a point not to get on the scale until the week after. So for about 1.5 weeks I do not weigh myself. I decided it only depresses me and it isn't an actual reflection of what I am gaining or losing. So I stopped.
  • If you have a scale that also tells you your body water% then you don't have to freak out.

Seriously though, it's just water weight. If it's that bothersome, you can take a diuretic and pee yourself back to your normal weight.
  • I'm scheduled to start today as well, ick!!! No fun - I feel like a huge, fat elephant!!! Like others have said, I don't weigh myself until a few days after my period is over with. In fact, that's pretty much the only time I weigh. No sense in disappointing yourself for no reason.

it is for me, everyone is different, but I typically start retaining a week before, and not back to normal till about three days after starting.
