So I started trying to get bigger a while ago and have been bouncing back and fourth between drinking a lot of milk. drinking weight gainers. eating a lot of chicken and rice and also eating random foods just to add calories. Im gaining weight but I feel like im just getting chubbier.Im getting stronger but I feel like im just getting fatter. Im 6'3" and I used to way around 160 and I got my self up to 175 but I dont feel like its good weight. I see all my other friends gaining weight and they never go through a fatter phase. Am I just doing something wrong? Am I not lifting hard enough? eating the wrong foods? Not taking the right supplements. Ive been trying to gain weight and look good all my life and im slowly giving up because I just dont feel like im ever meant to be a bigger guy.. HELP ME PLEASE! Thank you!

At 6'3 and 175lbs you are pretty light. If you are getting fat then I advise you find your maintenance calories and eat at that level whilst lifting weights.1

Am I just doing something wrong? Am I not lifting hard enough?
(Could be wrong though....)
If you are sitting on your backside while eating in a calorie surplus (from milk, food or supplements - it really doesn't matter) yes you will get bigger but bigger as in fatter.
If you want it then get serious about it, stop bouncing about and have a proper serious think about your goals and what's needed to get there. Half arsed commitment results in half arsed results. You're 19 years old - you can become anything you want, don't waste your golden years of training wanting but not doing. It will never be as easy again to get great results as it is right now for you.3 -

Very similar to my thinking. The bouncing around comment would suggest a lack of consistency, no mention of what program is being follow or other nutrition aspects.
So to be able to provide a better assessment, we will need to know what workout at your following, are you consistently gaining weight? If so, how much per week? What do your calories/macros look like? Have you had consistency?0 -
I lift pretty hard and getting a little bigger but its never like oh your gaining muscle, keep going. No its like youre getting bigger and alittle stronger but i dont look like... Muscular.. and I dont know what to eat or how much of it.. I was eating chicken and rice and drinking lots of milk and taking gainers that were like 500 cal 60 g protein 100 g carbs and its helped me get to a good macro. but I just dont feel like somethings working and I feel like I just need someone to be like eat this. train this and you should get there haha so i can just stick to something and hope for the best..0
-
What is your rate of weight gain? What is your maintenance calories? What is your current calorie intake you're eating at to gain weight?0
-
To be honest. I have no idea. I need help with what to eat. how much to eat. I dont know how the *kitten* people are able to eat 3500 calories a day. And afford it. unless im just stupid and dont know haha HELP.1

When you say training hard, what kind of program are you following. Because you can easily train hard while doing the wrong program. Hell brospilts "work" but they are generally ineffective and inefficient for 99% of people.
We really need more details into your programs or we won't be able to help.0 -

People focus on the wrong foods because people try to eat like those following contest prep and follow the myths from the body building communty. And its very easy to hit 3500 if you eat the right stuff. The below thread can help.

Have MFP set a calorie goal for you to gain weight. You're going to want your protein goal to be a solid 0.8 grams per lb of body weight. There are a variety of ways to hit your protein goal, especially if you have a lot of calories to blow. If you're having trouble hitting your calorie goal, try sticking mainly to calorie dense foods such as whole milk, cheese, fatty cuts of meat, nuts, peanut butter, butter, fruit juice, avocado, guacamole, pop tarts, etc.0

But if I eat like that wont i get fatter? Or do i have no choice to get fatter or not if i want to get bigger? If i do follow this eating thing? what do I do when i want to get all that fat off of me? keep eating that and just run? or eat just protein or?

Let me break it down for you. If you eat at a surplus, you will always put on muscle AND fat. If you eat at a deficit, you will always lose muscle AND fat. The amount of fat vs muscle that you lose/gain is determined by a couple things. If you eat sufficient protein AND engage in progressive overload resistance training, you will maximize muscle gain during a surplus and minimize muscle loss during a deficit. Another huge factor is the size of your deficit or surplus. If you eat a large surplus(often referred to as a dirty bulk), a higher percentage of your weight gain will come from fat as opposed to if you eat at a small surplus(often referred to as a clean bulk). If you eat a large deficit(aggressive cut) a higher percentage of your weight loss will come from muscle as opposed to if you eat at a small deficit(conservative cut).
So, knowing all this information, it is clear that if you eat sufficient protein, engage in progressive overload resistance training, and eat at a small surplus, you will gain weight as efficiently as possible while putting on minimal fat. Sure you are still going to put on some fat, but that is why once you finish your bulk, you transition to a cut and lose weight so that you can shed that fat and preserve the muscle you built. Does that make sense?

Yeah that makes sense. Thanks man! Everything I see and read makes it look and sound so difficult ... But ill try this out and see how it goes. thank you!0

I've made it a habit during bulks of throwing down a 50g protein shake (half whey half casein) before all meals. There are two reasons for this.
1: it's the cheapest way to get in protein per gram, bar none.
2: this way, no matter what I eat or fail to eat, due to being full, my protein needs are covered.
ETA: when I say protein shake, I mean protein shake. Not weight gainers, or any of the silly premade garbage that gets hocked to unsuspecting housewives.1 -

To point out, not everyone loses muscle in a deficit. In fact, it is possible to gain muscle in a deficit.0 -

Wouldn't that be pretty rare to happen? New to training, small deficit, higher body fat? Or are there other circumstances?0 -

Deficit size, leanness, genetics, noob gains contribute, lifting programming and prior training do contribute. And i am not suggesting that its easy. But making statements like the above is a generalization that just isnt correct. Considering the audience on this board is largely noobs, its going to be poor advice imo. But it should also be noted that its far from optimal and you wouldnt nearly gain that amount you would in a surplus.3 -
I don't know if anyone's on here anymore BUT I weigh 190 now! Downfall is I think I have man tits/ puffy nipples. Any advice?

Since you never actually said what program you are following and your calories for the day, I am going to guess that you gained too fast and didn't lift enough or correctly. What was your rate of gain? What was your lifting program? Did you progress over time?0
-
I've always had man tits. But my rate of gain was like 1 to 2 ppunts per week. And I have gained so much! I can bench squat and just lift twice as much. But since my chest is getting bigger my chest is just being more boob like.

Man boobs mean you're either too fat or have loose skin. Puffy nipples are genetic but can be a sign of high estrogen or excess body fat (which is also estrogenic).0 -
You're eating too many calories and getting fat. First things first, log all your food and use it to work out what your maintenance calories are. When you body weight is holding steady, lower your calories by 10% and you should start losing some of that extra fat you've gained.
When you're happy with your bodyfat levels increase your calories until you start gaining weight slowly.0
